Work From Home For All Bengaluru IT Employees? TCS, Wipro & Other IT Firms Impose Work From Home

Indian IT companies and startups, including Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Wipro have announced work from home for their employees in Bengaluru.

The city has been submerged due to heavy torrential rains and water logging which has also disrupted electrical supply.

TCS

The companies are constantly monitoring the situation and are taking all safety measures for their employees.

TCS has internally told its delivery teams to keep safe.

A spokesperson from TCS said that all its associates at Bengaluru are safe and that its delivery teams have been advised to exercise due caution.

Wipro 

Wipro is planning to carry on with operations and announced WFH to enable business continuity.

A Wipro spokesperson said that it has advised its employees to work from home.

“Business Continuity Plans have been invoked and there has been no disruption to business. We are closely monitoring the situation,” the spokesperson said.

Commuting by tractor

The situation is so bad that people have to resort to traveling on tractors to get to work. 

This has affected even top level employees, such as Gaurav Munjal, founder of the Softbank-backed education technology firm Unacademy.

He tweeted on how his family and his pet dog were rescued on a tractor and wrote, “Things are bad. Please take care.”

UpGrad CEO

CEO of edtech company UpGrad Arjun Mohan also had to take the help of a tractor to cross waist-deep water and hitch rides from passing bikers to reach his office.

Mohan wrote on Linkedin, “I had to walk 7 km, take a tractor to cross waist-deep water and hitch rides from passing bikers to reach office. Quite an adventurous day and looks like Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and Karnataka govt has decided to do everything to keep us healthy with all the walking .”

CM’s response

Karnataka’s Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai announced that the government is taking needed measures to handle the problem.

He said that the government had paid Rs 1,500 crore for the development of stormwater drains.

It also recently “released Rs 300 crore to remove all encroachments and do a pucca structure along the stormwater drains and for the infrastructure in order to avoid impediments and bottlenecks in the flow of water.”
