About The Fare!

Economy AC 3 fares are 8% less expensive than standard AC-3 grade coaches.

Coaches of the economy AC 3 tier have 83 berths, which is 11 more than the standard AC 3 tier coach. The carriages, according to Indian Railways, are the world’s “most affordable in its class air-conditioned” train travel.

The Design

The economy class is an upgrade from the non-AC sleeper while being almost on par with the AC-III tier.

  • An extra bay for the additional berths
  • Personalised aircraft-style vents for air conditioning
  • Personalised reading lights and charging points
  • Modular bio-toilets
  • One divyang-friendly toilet in each coach
  • Modified ladders for reaching the middle and upper berths
  • Fire-proof berths and foldable snack tables for aisle berth

The government was working on this concept because it wanted to bring affordable air conditioning. According to the board’s internal debate, the new class will be designated as 3E in the reservation document.
