Coronavirus has wreaked havoc all around, and Indian Railways hasn’t been able to buck the trend.

In a shocking admittance, Railways has announced that their revenues are down 90%, compared to last year.

And there is no fixed date for restarting the trains as well.

Things are looking gloomy for Indian Railways now.

Indian Railways: Our Revenues Are Down By 90%

While interacting with media, VK Yadav, CEO and Chairman, Railway Board said that their revenues have been badly hit, due to coronavirus impact.

Compared to last year, Railways have lost 90% of the revenues.

He said, “The Railways has earned Rs 3,322 crore from the passenger segment, which is 90 percent less than last year, due to COVID-19,”

Although Railways have started some special trains, normal trains schedule are all stopped, and this is heavily impacting their revenues

No One Knows When Trains Will Start

When asked on the possible dates from which normal schedule of trains will start, VK Yadav said that there is no news as of now.

The restarting of trains will solely depend on the number of cases which are coming in daily, and Govt of India wil take the final call.

As of now, there is no news on restarting of trains in India, and VK Yadav have shared the same.

MoneyControl reported: “He, however, admitted that it is difficult to give an exact date due to the uncertainty created by the Coronavirus outbreak.”

Revenues From Transportation Increased

One positive news: Due to the lockdown and disruption of road transport medium, Railways have earned more from freight trains, compared to last year.

As per Yadav, Railways earned Rs 869 crore from freight trains, which is 9% higher than last year.

Automobile rakes also increase to 320, compared to 169 lasdt year.

At the same time, Kisan Rail traffic also increased.
