JioFiber Will Offer Bundled Voice Calls

JioFiber is almost ready to be deployed to the public. Jio’s Fibre-to-the-Home will be launched by the end of this year. It is already in the testing phase in Mumbai and New Delhi. In the meanwhile, the other players in the broadband market are busy with trying to come up with their own plans to counter Jio’s threat.

We had reported yesterday that Vodafone’s YOU Broadband had launched a 12TB Annual Plan which will cost users only Rs 353 per month. Not to be left behind, Airtel Broadband has also committed to set aside a ‘few hundred crores‘ to expand and improve their broadband services.

BSNL went one step further and added voice calls and video conferencing to their broadband network. Overall it’s a good time to be a broadband internet subscriber in India. Wired broadband is the new frontier and value-added services are the new points of distinction.

JioFiber: 100 Mbps FTTH With Bundled Voice Calls

Now as per new reports, Reliance Jio will also be bundling high-quality voice and video calls with their FTTH service. Livemint has reported that according to a person in the know Reliance Jio will launch their Fibre broadband services at the end of this year. They plan to include high-quality, unlimited voice calls which will use the VoIP technology. The tariff plans, with bundled voice calls, could be lower than Rs 1,000 per month.

Currently, Jio is offering 1.1 TB data at the speeds of 100 Mbps in select locations. Jio’s news comes against the background of the government’s approval of Internet Telephony using VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol). It will allow users to make voice calls over their broadband connections.

According to Amresh Nandan, Vice-President Research at Gartner,

“Bundled offerings, though popular in some Western countries, have not been successful without a strong content play. Reliance Jio has been active with its content strategy and this would become an advantage with a bundled quad play—fixed line, mobile, broadband internet and media. It may increase consumer stickiness.”

The Juggernaut Called Jio

Jio is expanding its services. Starting with telecom, it will now offer wired broadband in addition to DTH services. Jio already offers streaming TV, music and movies through its suite of premium Jio apps. During this year’s IPL, it had tied up with Hotstar to live-stream all IPL matches free for Jio subscribers through its JioTV app.

People are already hooked to Jio’s value-added services which are totally free with their Jio subscription. It offers unbelievable value for money which can hardly be matched by others in the industry. Voice calls over broadband are the new USP for attracting more customers.

It is interesting to note that while Airtel Broadband, YOU Broadband and BSNL Broadband are already operational in the country, they shape their offerings keeping JioFiber as the pricing benchmark. While the launch of JioFiber is more than six months away, Jio might just surprise everybody with completely new and different plans at launch.

We will keep you updated as we receive more reports on this.

Are you an existing broadband subscriber of other service-providers in the market? Will you switch over to JioFiber once it is launched?
