Xiaomi Tops Indian Market With A 31% Share; Netflix Now Available On Tata Sky!
The previous market leader Samsung is in the second spot, followed by Oppo, Vivo and Honor.
The biggest smartphone brand in the country – Xiaomi has again topped the list with a whopping 31.1 percent share in the Indian smartphone market. The Chinese smartphone company has registered a 155 percent growth in terms of annual shipments in the first quarter of 2018.
The previous market leader Samsung is in the second spot, followed by Oppo, Vivo and Honor. The Huawei sub-brand Honor has also become the fastest growing smartphone brand in the last quarter, followed by OnePlus.

Chinese Makers Dominate:Â Xiaomi Tops Indian Market
There’s no Indian brand featured in the top five list, and the Chinese brands continue to dominate the market. Apart from Samsung, all the brands who topped the list are from China. The Chinese brands together constituted over 57 percent of the total Indian smartphone market in the last quarter.
Compared to last year, the Chinese brands had a 53 percent market share during the same period of 2017. This is the highest ever market share held by the Chinese smartphone makers in the Indian market.
Redmi Note 5 & Note 5 Pro Are The Most Popular Smartphones
Launched in mid-February, the Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro were the among the most popular smartphones for Xiaomi in the last quarter. Samsung Galaxy J7 NXT and Galaxy J2 (2017) were the most sold Samsung smartphones in the last quarter.
Both Xiaomi and Samsung together have held a 58 percent share in the Indian smartphone market in the first quarter of 2018.
Honor & OnePlus Are The Fastest Growing Smartphone Brands
The Huawei sub-brand Honor entered the list of top five most-selling smartphone brands in India for the very first time. Honor has registered a 146 percent growth in the last quarter, followed by OnePlus with a 112 percent growth. OnePlus is also the second leading brand in the premium smartphone market in India.
Honor launched a bunch of smartphones in the country in the last two quarters with several mid-range options like Honor 9 Lite and Honor 7X. The variety and affordable pricing have helped the company to enter the top five for the first time.
Lenovo & Motorola Out Of The List
Lenovo and Motorola have been out of the list after a long time. Both Lenovo and Motorola have struggled to gain market in the last six months, due to an immense competition from its Chinese counterparts.
Lava, Micromax, Nokia (HMD Global), Lenovo and Motorola together hold the fifth spot with a 27 percent share in the market.
Reliance Jio Leads The Feature Phone Market
With its disruptive pricing and plans, Jio now leads the feature phone segment with a 35.8 percent market share. The company now has a hold of more than one-third of the total feature phone market in the country. Jio 4G Feature Phone is available at an effective price of Rs. 0 with a refundable deposit of Rs. 1,500.
The demand for Jio Phones have doubled with the launch of the cheapest-ever data and calling combined plan of Rs 49 per month in January. The plan offers unlimited voice calling and 1GB high-speed data for a whole month.
Now Stream Netflix Directly From Tata Sky Set Top Box
Tata Sky has signed a deal with Netflix today to stream content directly from its set-top box. Netflix has been in talks with multiple cable TV operators for a strategic content partnership.
All Tata Sky subscribers in India will now get access to the entire range of Netflix service like TV shows, films, documentaries and more. It’s still not clear whether you need to login through your Netflix account on the DTH or Tata Sky will separately charge you for the Netflix access.
Currently, Tata Sky has is present in more than 2 lakh towns in India with over 18 million subscribers.
