On July 28 (Wednesday), Facebook announced that it would require employees to resume working from office, once they are fully vaccinated. This news came after Google made the same announcement for its employees, earlier the same day.

Now, as the number of Covid-19 cases across the US surges, concerns regarding the highly contagious Delta variant have risen, as a result of which Facebook has announced a strict requirement for all its employees to wear masks across all of its campuses in the U.S.

Facebook Mandates Wearing Masks in US Offices

In a statement given by the company spokesperson of Facebook on Monday, wearing masks on all campuses of the company in the U.S. is made mandatory for employees, starting August 3 until further notice.

While initially Facebook had announced its employees to rejoin offices on being fully vaccinated, the clause now includes wearing masks (compulsorily) while at the campus.

“Given the rising numbers of COVID cases, the newest data on COVID variants, and an increasing number of local requirements, we are reinstating our mask requirement in all of Facebook’s U.S. offices, regardless of an employee’s vaccination status,” states the spokesperson for Facebook.

The reported number of Covid-19 cases is surging in the U.S., despite an increase in the number of vaccinations. This is due to the growing concerns over the deadlier Delta variant of the virus.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has been reporting about 72,000 new cases each day.

About three months back, the US CDC had removed compulsion over wearing masks for those who were fully vaccinated.

However, the cautionary advice has rescinded, as the number of positive cases is at a rise.

Furthermore, many local governments in the San Francisco Bay Area too have similar orders, which mandate people to wear masks indoors, when in a public area.

Facebook is not the only company reinstalling safety measures with the rise of positive Covid-19 cases.

Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai too announced that it requires all its employees to be vaccinated and that the offices remain closed until October.
