From July 23, 2021, The Indian Railways is accepting bids for the Private Train Project.

This is part of the Indian government’s plans to privatise major railway lines. As of now, the national transporter Indian railways has received bids for three Clusters – Mumbai 2, Delhi 1, and Delhi 2.

These Two Bidders Are Bidding For The Railways Private Player Project

Bids for three clusters – Mumbai 2, Delhi 1, and Delhi 2 – have been received by the railways.

The Railways private player project is being bid on by the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) and Megha Engineering & Infrastructures (MEIL).

These three clusters would require roughly 30 pairs of the train and a total investment of Rs 7200 crores.

According to the systematic operation,30 pairs of private train services (60 trains) will be started in three clusters The private investment of Rs 30,000 crore will be done for running passenger trains.

The Two-Stage Competitive Bidding Process

A transparent two-stage competitive bidding process involving a request for qualification (RFQ) and a request for proposal (RFP) would be used to choose private businesses to carry out the Private Train Project. 

Firms were mainly interested in the Delhi and Mumbai clusters because of their huge footfall and income.

According to internal projections, Indian Railways expects to start private rail operations with 12 trains by March 2023. Railways intend to introduce 151 such services by 2027.
