Tata Sky Will Challenge Airtel With XStream Type Hybrid Android Set-Top Box: Tata Sky Binge+ (Details Inside)
The DTH service provider, Tata Sky has been a part of news a bit more than their presence, lately. Recently, it announced giving away an Amazon Fire TV Stick free with every new High Definition set-top box connection, naming this deal as Amazon Fire TV Stick – Tata Sky Edition.
In fact this is not the only piece of news Tata Sky has been in. We also reported that the service provider will no longer be providing its long term channel packs, like the six-month channel pack or the annual channel pack to the new subscribers, in order to save on subscription costs.
In the most recent one, leading DTH operator removed 11 channels from it free to air complimentary pack from Dec 1. Today, however the DTH operator has shown a competitive spirit and has launched a hybrid Android set-top-box under its Binge+ offering.
Tata Sky’s ‘Prithvi’ to Give a Strong Competition to Airtel Digital TVÂ
DTH operator Tata Sky has decided to take on its immediate competitor Airtel Digital TV by launching a hybrid Android set-top-box under its Binge+ offering.
According to the report, this set top box shall be launched on December 16. It will run on the Android 9 platform, powered by 1.8 GHz processor and 2 GB of RAM. It is code-named to be ‘Prithvi’.
Tata Sky Binge+: How Will It Work?
This hybrid STB runs live TV via a RF cable and also allows users to stream Over The Top (OTT) content via Ethernet or WiFi. It will also support 4K transmission, 7-day catch-up, Tata Sky’s video on demand and streaming services like Amazon Prime and Netflix.
On purchasing this setup box, the users will get one-month free subscription of Tata Sky’s Binge service. The company until now, hasn’t disclosed any pricing yet.
This announcement could be witnessed as Tata Sky’s efforts against rival Airtel Digital TV, which launched the XStream set-top-box with android, OTT and 4K compatibility, a few months ago.
