Facing serious backlashes for the stream of advertisements MIUI platform provides their Xiaomi and MI phone users, Xiaomi has finally announced to reduce the number of advertisements it allows on its various applications and platforms.

As though the ads weren’t irritating enough to sneakily enter the apps, Xiaomi has reportedly started showing ads in the settings apps too, which has left users frustrated. Anyway, the Chinese tech firm has reportedly announced that it will now be optimizing and monitoring the advertisements in the OS.

The ‘Too Much’ Ad Problems

Generally, companies turn to advertisements to generate revenue and smartphone-makers allow developers to put ads into their apps for earnings. Xiaomi is well-known for its honest pricing and excellent mobile phones. With its MIUI, Xiaomi has done vast framework-level changes to the Android OS that add plenty of utility for the end consumer and many average users do end up liking MIUI. 

There however seems to be one massive problem. All MIUI users unanimously dislike the plethora of advertisements. MIUI has an Ads problem, which has been aggravating with time. They have become seemingly intrusive and gets annoying really soon.

In September 2018, users began witnessing advertisements even in the Settings app and there was no sign of a ‘Turn-off’ option. The user outcry seems to have finally caught Xiaomi’s attention, as the company is now mulling the option of introducing a way to let users turn off the pesky ads.

Xiaomi’s Finally Working on Reducing Ads

Xiaomi justifies that its aggressive ad placement policy is essential to support the development of its apps. . However, taking action to all these fiery backlashes finally, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun announced that the company is planning to reduce the number of ads in MIUI and users will have the option to disable advertisements.

The ads won’t vanish completely but are likely to be served in a manner that the overall user experience does not get ruined.

Xiaomi will get rid of vulgar and pesky ads that negatively affect the user experience. Xiaomi has reportedly started reducing the number of advertising spots and it will further go down in the coming months.

Regarding vulgar and inappropriate ads, Xiaomi has formulated strict regulations for all  forms of ads served in MIUI and if the advertisers offer anything but clean ads, they’d be heavily punished, their ads cancelled and the advertisement account will likely close too.

MIUI 11 Will Help in Further Ad Control

With its next version of MIUI, Xiaomi will reportedly reduce a lot of advertising space from the MIUI 11 in the coming two months. It has also ensured that the number of ads from all system tools will reduce too.

MIUI 11 will also support voice call recording within the QQ app, a local recycle bin and a magnification shortcut to let users quickly zoom in text or images, to name a few.

It is good that Xiaomi has finally relaised to cut down on its ads, before losing all its potential crowd to substantial competitors. We shall keep you updated on the same.
