It’s time to say the big flat notches bye, as we are now all set to enter a period of smaller waterdrop notches. First launched in the Essential phone, the trend of notches grew like a bonfire with Apple iPhone X.

But, before Apple could make the notch shorter, both Oppo and Vivo have done it with their no-notch edge to edge displays with Oppo Find X and Vivo NEX respectively.

That was for the premium segment.

Now to reckon the sub-20,000 market, both the companies have launched devices with little waterdrop notches with bezel-less displays. Oppo launched Oppo F9 Pro last week, and now Vivo launched Vivo V11 Pro, both with the special waterdrop notches.

Both Vivo V11 Pro and Oppo F9 Pro pack in some sleek features apart from the circular notches, they go head to head against each other in India with similar sort of specs and features.

Before we start, both Vivo and Oppo are sister companies, subsidiaries of Chinese tech behemoth BBK Electronics.


Both Oppo F9 Pro and Vivo V11 Pro come with premium built design language which makes them stand out tall in the crowd. Starting with Oppo F9 Pro, the Oppo smartphone has a gradient finish doubled with diamond cut patterns on the back. Similarly, the Vivo V11 Pro also comes with a glossy finish at the back coupled with gradient color built.

Both the smartphones feel very premium and handsome in hand and even when you look at it.


Oppo and Vivo both are offering a full-screen experience with a small waterdrop notch at under Rs 25,000. The Oppo F9 Pro has a 6.3 inch IPS LCD Full HD+ display with the ‘waterdrop’ notch, while the Vivo V11 Pro has a better 6.4 inch Super AMOLED Full HD+ panel with a similar waterdrop circular notch.

In terms of display, Vivo V11 Pro has an upper hand here over Oppo F9 Pro with a “Super View Halo Display” on top.

Both the displays stretch edge-to-edge with almost no-bezels, little chins and circular notches.

Hardware & Storage

Vivo V11 Pro and Oppo F9 Pro both come with 6GB of RAM. The Oppo F9 Pro has 64GB of internal storage, while the Vivo V11 Pro has higher 128GB of storage. The F9 Pro has the Mediatek P60 chipset, but Vivo V11 Pro has a better Snapdragon 660 chipset.

Both can handle multitasking and moderately heavy games with ease like PUBG. Though, the Vivo V11 Pro will stay ahead of Oppo F9 Pro with a better chipset offering a dependable performance.

Both the notched smartphones phones come with dedicated external memory slots with additional storage upto 256GB.


In terms of software, both Vivo V11 Pro and Oppo F9 Pro runs Android Oreo 8.1 out of the box paired with their own custom skins on top. Oppo F9 Pro has Oppo’s Color OS 5.2 on top while the Vivo V11 Pro has its FunTouch OS 4.5 skin on top.

Both Vivo and Oppo OS has its own set of customizations and add-on features and is easy to adapt.


Starting with Oppo F9 Pro, at the back, it has a dual camera setup comprising of a 16 megapixel f/1.8 primary lens coupled with a 2 megapixel depth secondary depth lens backed by PDAF, LED Flash and HDR.

Vivo V11 Pro has a rear dual camera system as well combining a 12 megapixel f/1.8 primary lens with dual pixel PDAF and a secondary 5 MP f/2.4 depth lens.

Both of these good-looking phones can take some good shots in well-lit and artificially lit conditions. The colour production is accurate, and so is the picture quality and sharpness.

Up front, both the smartphones come with a 25 MP f/2.0 sharp selfie shooter.


Oppo F9 Pro packs in a 3,500mAh battery backed by the signature Oppo powered VOOC Flash charging. While the V11 Pro has a smaller 3,400mAh battery with 18W quick-charging support, but has a micro-USB port instead of a USB Type-C.

Both the smartphones can easily run for a day on a single charge. Even the charge isn’t as issue with these smartphone as both come with super-fast charging support.

Price & Availability

The Oppo F9 Pro currently sells for a price of Rs 23,990 in the country, while the newly launched Vivo V11 Pro will be sold in India for a price of Rs 25,990. The Oppo F9 Pro is exclusively available online via Flipkart in Sunrise Red and Twilight Blue colours.

VERDICTVivo V11 Pro vs Oppo F9 Pro

If you will compare these two phones with Poco F1, they may lose out on performance but will stay ahead in terms of looks, display and build quality. Oppo and Vivo both target a niche audience who love smartphones with good cameras, battery and built. In terms of that, both these smartphones excel very well and also have a decent mid-range spec onboard.

Both Vivo V11 Pro and and Oppo F9 Pro offer standard performance, good looks and top camera experience. If you are someone who is looking for high performance, these phones are not for you.

Between Oppo F9 Pro and Vivo V11 cater to an audience who want an impressive design, a top of the line bezel-less display, good cameras and strong battery.

Finally, which one should you pick between Vivo V11 Pro and Oppo F9 Pro, the V11 Pro has an edge over the F9 with higher storage, better camera, better Snapdragon 660, an in-display fingerprint sensor and 18W fast charging (though not better than Oppo VOOC Flash charging).

Oppo F9 Pro is not bad either, but it will lose out to Vivo V11 Pro over the display, processor and imaging capabilities.
