Honor recently launched the Honor 7X in India followed by flagship the Honor View 10. Now, the Huawei sub-brand has launched another smartphone in the country, the Honor 9 Lite. After its debut in China last month, India is the second market after to get the mid-range smartphone, which starts at just Rs. 10,999/- in the country.

The Honor 9 Lite has a lot in common with its other phones, the Honor 7X and Honor 9i. With glass at the back, it is very similar to the 9i and has a metal unibody construction like 7X.

Honor 9i Lite – Specifications & Features

Huawei recently announced the latest EMUI 8.0 which is based on Android 8.0 Oreo. The camera hardware is aided by AI-powered Real-Time Scene and Object Recognition, Smart Tips and AI Accelerated Translator. The Honor 9 Lite will run the latest version of EMUI 8.0 out of the box.

Design

It is a slim device with a strong focus on design. It has a 2.5D curved glass at the front and back which covers the metal unibody. The fingerprint sensor is located on the back side of the phone.

Display

The Honor 9 Lite will come with a 5.65 inch Full HD+ IPS display with a screen resolution of 2160×1080 pixels. It is an 18:9 aspect ratio screen with a pixel density of 428 PPI. The display is smaller than that of Honor 7X and the Honor 9i.

Hardware

The smartphone will be powered by a 2.36GHz octa-core HiSilicon Kirin 659 chipset, (considered on par with Qualcomm Snapdragon 625), paired with the Mali-T830MP2 GPU.

Storage

In India, the Honor 9 Lite will be available in two variants;

1. 3GB RAM + 32GB Storage
2. 4GB RAM + 64GB Storage

The storage on both the variants can be expanded up to 256GB through a hybrid SIM slot.

Software

The smartphone will run Android Oreo out of the box. It is probably the first mid-range device in India to do so. The Honor 9 Lite will run the latest version of Emotion UI (EMUI) 8.0 which is based on the latest Android version.

Camera

The major highlight of the Honor 9 Lite is its four cameras! The device has dual cameras at the back and dual cameras up front. At the back, there’s a 13MP primary shooter with PDAF and a 2MP secondary, depth-sensing shooter. At the front, the device has a similar combination of 13MP+2MP cameras.

Connectivity

The Honor 9 Lite features a 3.5mm headphone jack, a MicroUSB port and supports either two SIM cards or a SIM card abd a memory card. It supports all major 4G bands with 4G VoLTE, GPS, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.2.

Battery

The Honor 9 Lite has a standard 3000mAh battery, which can easily last a full working day.

Price & Variants

Honor 9 Lite will be available in Sapphire Blue, Midnight Black and Glacial Grey color options. The 3GB/32GB model will cost Rs. 10,999/- while the 4GB/64GB model will be available for Rs. 14,999/-.

Availability

The Honor 9 Lite will be available on exclusively on Flipkart and the Honor partner stores offline. The first flash sale will be held at 12:00 AM on 21st January.

Preliminary Verdict

With its combination of dual front and dual rear cameras, 18:9 widescreen display, a sleek body, Android Oreo and a stable processor, the Honor 9 Lite stands out in the crowd. At Rs. 10,999/- for the 3GB/32GB variant, Honor 9 Lite will cut Honor 7X and Redmi Note 4 in pricing.

In effect, Honor 9 Lite has a superior sets of specs compared to other phones in its mid-range lineup, and will particularly compete against phones like Xiaomi Mi A1 and Moto G5S Plus.
