Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Gen. (Dr) V. K. Singh (retd), has announced that the government has no objection to the use of drones for delivery by private entities, in a reply to the Rajya Sabha.
Further adding that the government had already used drones for vaccine delivery during the pandemic, especially in the remote regions of the country.
Besides this, drones can also be used in other areas including inspection of oil pipelines and power transmission lines, anti-locust operations, agricultural spraying, survey of mines, and land mapping under the SVAMITVA scheme for issuance of digital property cards.
Drone Usage Guidelines
Prior to this, the usage of private drones was outlined in Drone Rules, 2021, released last August.
These rules include everything about drone uses guidelines including drone type certification and airspace restrictions to R&D rules, training, and licensing.
Also companies like Skye Air, ?Marut Drones?, ?Garuda Aerospace?, and TechEagle have announced their selection for running pilots with Swiggy last year.D
To make this transition smoother, the Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, said that his ministry is opening 126 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), in a reply to the Lok Sabha.
Industrial Training Institutes For Drone
This move is expected to help teach five courses on drone manufacturing, repair, and maintenance.
Further, the majority of these Industrial Training Institutes will be opened in the states including Andhra Pradesh (11), Assam (14), Bihar (10), Gujarat (20), Haryana (10), Jharkhand (10), Maharashtra (12) and Uttar Pradesh (15).
While giving brief about the courses, he said that three of the courses are technical in nature (teaching service, manufacturing, and operating skills), at the same time, two will be focussing on agricultural uses of drones.
Last week an announcement came where the government-backed Agri Infra Fund will start providing loans to local businesses that wish to buy agri-drones.
In another development, the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in Satpur is one among the 12 institutes in the state that has been selected by the Union ministry of skill development and entrepreneurship to impart a short-term course on drone operations and maintenance.
Further, the course will most likely commence either on September 1 or on September 14, said Rajesh Mankar, the principal of ITI, Satpur.
