Indian Companies Want Employees Back In Office: “Teamwork cannot happen remotely”?

The work from home working policy has drawn in mixed reviews from employees and employers over the country. While some people prefer working from home, companies are of the opinion that employees should work from their workplaces in order to encourage teamwork.

In fact, companies are asking recruitment firms to bring in candidates who are willing to work from the office, instead of hybrid or work from home policies.

Companies Showing Increased Inclination Towards Ending WFH Policy

As shown by research, companies are showing an increasing inclination towards people who are willing to work from offices. The primary reasons behind this seem to be attrition and teamwork.

As per Rituparna Chakraborty, Co-Founder of staffing firm TeamLease Services, “Teamwork cannot happen remotely. This robotic work culture had to be adopted during the pandemic, but now physical attendance is needed.”

Masses of employees have moved away from their offices back to their hometowns, which helped them save on their rent and be closer to their families. As per the recent Tech Talent Outlook report by Scikey, 80 percent of employees still prefer working from home.

A lot of factors contribute to the work from home policy being preferred, such as high rents in office hubs, long commute hours, pollution, being away from family.

Companies Not Offering Incentives To Bring Back Employees

Companies are not offering any incentives or changing salary structures to get employees to come back to the workplace.

Companies in legacy sectors like infrastructure, manufacturing, and pharma are asking for new employees to join their offices, whereas, tech companies are more comfortable with the WFH or hybrid work policies.

We have shared in February this year that considering the reduced number of covid 19 cases, IT behemoths like Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) Wipro, Cognizant, Infosys are asking their employees to be ready.  They could be called to the offices as early as next month.

In fact, IT giant Wipro has asked managers and above to return by March 3, 2022. They will be called for two days a week for now.

Additionally, Apple Inc. has set 11th April as the deadline for employees to come back and work from the office. Employees will have to work from the office for at least one day out of the week by that date, according to a memo shared by Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook.
