Rising Threat

The move comes about as the city has crossed the 20,000-mark in daily cases last week along with rising positivity rate.

Earlier, offices were allowed to operate but at 50% capacity.

Exempted Services

Only those providing essential services will be exempted.

They include:

  • Banks
  • Companies providing essential services like pharma companies, telecom services, petrol pumps, transport of cargo, aviation services
  • RBI-regulated entities
  • Offices of advocates
  • Courier services

As part of city-wide restrictions to battle Omicron, restaurants and bars were shut except for takeaways and home delivery.

Peak To Come Soon

Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain said that cases in the city will likely peak “in one or two days, definitely this week”, and will start dipping after that.

He warned that another curfew could be in the offing as a reminder to the public to not “lower their guard”.

No Lockdown?

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal reaffirmed that there are no plans to impose any lockdown as long as people follow Covid-appropriate behavior such as wearing masks.

He said that lifting of restrictions will only happen when the case count starts to fall.
