4.5 Lakh TCS Employees Working From Home; Return To Office Postponed By TCS, Infosys, HCL

The recent outbreak of Omicron variant has forced Indian IT companies to postpone their move to work from office for millions of employees.

Infact, TCS has admitted that 90% of their employees, or roughly 4.5 lakh workforce are still working from home.

So, should we assume that return to office has been postponed by TCS and other major IT companies?

Here are the facts we know so far..

TCS Postpones Work From Office

As per a report by Economic Times, India’s biggest IT services company:TCS has postponed work from office for their workforce, due to the outbreak of Omicron virus.

TCS has said that as of now, 90% of their entire workforce is still working from home, and only 10% or 50,000 employees are working from the office.

For the return to office, TCS has said that they will make a “calibrated move”, in the near future. Since there is no timeline mentioned by TCS, it’s safe to say that work from office will be in a gradual manner, and not in a mass-scale.

Earlier, TCS had announced that from November 15th, 90% of their employees will be working from the office.

Omicron has certainly cancelled this plan.

Infosys, HCL Will Postpone Work From Office

Sharing similar sentiments, other IT biggies such as Infosys and HCL have also stated that return to office will be postponed as of now.

Infosys’ Bengaluru spokesperson stated that they have “taken a cautious approach” keeping in mind the “changing health situation”.

Meanwhile Noida based HCL has stated that they “will continue to monitor the emergence and impact of Covid-19 variants which could limit the movement of employees”

HCL has informed that less than one-tenth are right now working from office, and for time being, this hybrid model will be continued.

Hence, we can safely claim that work from home for millions of IT employees will continue as of now, unless and until more clarity emerges regarding the spread and intensity of Omicron virus.

We will keep you updated, as more details come in.
