In an interesting revelation, it has been found that India is the world’s 4th most spammed nation!

20 Crore Spam Calls By One Single Number!

As per a report by TrueCaller, it has been found that between January to October this year, a record 20 crore spam calls were made, by one single number.

Infact, 664,000 phone users were bombarded with the spam calls every single day and 27,000 people/hour were targeted by this single number.

The report said, “Truecaller actively maintains a list of top spammers in each region in order to automatically block them, but this one spammer is so far ahead of the rest that they will find it very hard to catch up,”

Why These Spam Calls?

As per the report, KYC is the #1 reason for spam calls, as telecom users were targeted for the spam calls. The spammers used RBI’s KYC mandate for banks, telecom and other services.

Other reasons that were used by the spammers include OTP verifications, online lotteries, online sales and more.

India Is 4th Most Spammed Nation!

The report states that India is 4th most spammed nation in the entire world, and this speaks volume about the menace of spam and unauthorized calls in the country.

An average telecom user in India receives 17 spam calls per month, as more than 3.8 billion spam calls were made only in the 30 days of October.

Brazil is world’s #1 spammed nation, with a record 32.9 spam calls, every month being targeted for the users there.

Alan Mamedi, CEO of Truecaller said, “In a time when the ongoing pandemic continues to impact people as well as countries and is now going into a new round of lockdowns, this year’s report has shown that not only has the pandemic affected communication behavior but also spam, sales and scam patterns around the world.”
