The Astor will have only the petrol version offered with 2 engine options.

The 1.5-litre 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated one is capable of producing 120bhp and 150 Nm of torque

The 1.3-litre turbocharged can produce 163bhp and 230 Nm of torque, which is more powerful than the 138bhp, 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine which runs the Creta

Both manual and automatic versions will be available.

Its Unique Feature

The Astor could be the first in the segment to be equipped with level 1 autonomous technology – ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems).

This feature consists of active driver assistance in the form of an emergency braking system, blind spot detection, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, front collision warning and hands-free auto parking.

Style-wise it will borrow design elements from the ZS Petrol which has a prominent front grille, sharper headlamps with LED DRLs, new bumper, new LED tail-lamps, multi-function steering wheel and new alloy wheels.

However, there will be some modifications to differentiate it from the rest, such as the infotainment setup being a floating unit, new centre console buttons and adjustable headrests for every passenger.

The interior features consist of –

  • A bigger 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity
  • MG iSmart connected car technology
  • Electrically adjustable driver seat
  • Cruise control
  • Automatic AC
  • 360 degree camera
  • Wireless charging
  • Driving modes
  • Hill descent control
  • Traction control
  • Electric sunroof
  • Front ventilated seats

Price, Launch, Competition

Pricing is expected to be in the ballpark of Rs 10 lakh, increasing its appeal in front of the Creta.

The new SUV could launch later this year, possibly before Diwali between July and September 2021.

It will be competing with Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Nissan Kicks and Renault Duster in the C-SUV segment.
