Kia India has reported that it clocked in sales of 11,050 units as of May 2021.
Kia Breaks Its Own Record
This means a Year-on-Year (YoY) sales growth of 565.26% compared to 1,661 units sold in May 2020.
This achievement is notable since overall automobile sales were weak due to the ongoing pandemic
Its top performer, the Kia Sonet, sold 6,627 units and became the most sold compact SUV in May 2021.
Other products in its lineup such as the Seltos and Carnival sold 4,277 and 146 units respectively during the month of May.
Kia presently enjoys a market share of 10.7%, setting a record in terms of monthly share for the automaker.
Top Kia Executive’s Statement
Kia India Chief Sales and Business Strategy Officer Tae-Jin Park praised the staff and partners for their efforts during the pandemic which posed a challenge to their business and industry at large.
He further expressed confidence in the industry’s recovery which would be driven by “the need for personal mobility and pent-up demand in the months to come”.
The recently launched updated versions of the Sonet and Seltos have received a great response which Park said reflected the brand’s understanding of its customers’ needs.
He added that both vehicles have ranked among the top 10 most sold cars in India where it crossed the milestone of 2.67 lakh sold units within just 22 months of the brands arrival in India.
Kia’s India Presence
Kia’s present lineup consists of just 3 models- the Sonet, Seltos, and Carnival.
Kia made its debut in India with the Seltos in 2019. It is offered with three engine choices – a 1.5L petrol, a 1.4L turbo-petrol, and a 1.5L turbo-diesel. It is priced between Rs. 9.95 lakh to Rs. 17.65 lakh.
Sonet is presently the most affordable choice, priced from Rs. 6.79 lakh to Rs. 13.35 lakh with three engine options – a 1.2L petrol, a 1.0L turbo-petrol, and a 1.5L turbo-diesel.
Finally, the Carnival comes with a single engine-transmission combo – a 2.2L turbo-diesel mated with an 8-speed automatic gearbox. It is priced between Rs. 24.95 lakh to Rs. 33.95 lakh.
