Apple Defeats Samsung To Become Top Smartphone Brand In 2020: Gartner Report

A new report by Gartner has said that Apple has sold more smartphones than Samsung in the fourth quarter of 2020. The Cupertino tech giant has been reportedly selling more iPhones and has generated higher profits than its South Korean tech giant Counterpart.

As per reports, in the final three months of 2020, iPhone sales have been recorded at 79.9 million, whereas Samsung clocked sales of 62.1 million. During the fourth quarter, the market share of Apple stands at 20.8 per cent share whereas that of Samsung is 16.2 per cent share. 

Samsung has been the number one smartphone vendor for the entire year of 2020; however, the sales of the company recorded a decline by 14.6 per cent. In the same duration, Apple’s sales have recorded a year on year increase by 14.9 per cent. 

Total Smartphone Sales Declined By 5.4 Per Cent; Demand For Low-End Smartphones To Increase

The total smartphone sales in the fourth quarter recorded a fall to 5.4 per cent, as per the market research agency. Apple has done quite well in the competitive smartphone market as compared to all of its competitors.

As per the analysts, the total smartphone sales in the fourth quarter of 2020 have declined by 5.4 per cent.

In a release, Gartner Senior Research Director Anshul Gupta said, “Even as consumers remained cautious in their spending and held off on some discretionary purchases, 5G smartphones and pro-camera features encouraged some end users to purchase new smartphones or upgrade their current smartphones in the quarter.”

The analysts have also said that the growing availability and the demand for low-end 5G smartphones outside of China will contribute to the growth of smartphones in 2021. This is after a 12.5 per cent decline in smartphone sales during 2020.
