Amazon and Flipkart are gearing up to meet the hike in demand that is headed their way for the upcoming festive season in India.

The eCommerce giants are rapidly investing in warehousing infrastructure and is also ramping up the hiring process for on-ground staff. 

Flipkart, Amazon Expect 22 Million Daily Shipments; Promise Creation of 3 Lakh Jobs

Most of us have reverted to online shopping to ensure social distancing and protect ourselves from falling prey to the COVID-19 disease. This has resulted in the boost in the business of both the E-Commerce platforms Amazon and Flipkart.

Consulting firm Redseer expects that the festival sales will go up to $7 billion in gross merchandise value which will also result in the creation of 3 lakh jobs.

Also, the daily E-Commerce shipments in the country have gone up to 5.1 million which was only 3.7 million prior to the COVID-19 time. Add to that the festive season in India and this number is expected to go up to as much as 22 million daily shipments in the last festive season the e-commerce shipments were around 12 million daily at an average. 

To be able to meet this demand the eCommerce platforms have started their recruitment drives especially in the supply chain management and the logistic functions.

Flipkart has recently announced that they will be hiring 70000 recruits for its supply chain management, especially now that the Big Billion Days sale event is right around the corner. 

 Flipkart, Amazon To Make Up For 70% Of Overall Hiring This Festive Season

Flipkart also promised direct job opportunities in the supply chain of a company and this will include delivery executives, pickers, packers, and sorters. Additionally, there will also be some indirect jobs that will be created at Flipkart seller partner locations and local corner stores as well. All the new recruits will be trained for customer service, delivery, installation, and safety and sanitization measures.

Flipkart has also joined hands with more than 50000 Kirana stores for last mile delivery. The Walmart owned company also extended its Wholesale operations to 12 new cities to ensure that demands in these cities are being met.

Amazon,  too, had announced the expansion of its operations by setting up 200 new delivery stations across India, both owned and third party operated. Amazon has also assured that they will be creating more jobs in addition to the 70,000 promised previously for the new delivery stations.

Redseer has said that 60% of the new hiring will be for the delivery and logistics arm of the exommerce companies. The remaining demand will be for customer service and warehouse functioning. As per reports, Amazon and Flipkart’s recruiment will make up for 70% of the overall hiring during the festive season. The rest will be covered by logistics companies, such as Delhivery, Ecomm Express and Shadowfax,
