Govt Allows IT Firms To Extend Work From Home Till December 31; IT Industry Cheers This Move?
In a big development, Govt of India has extended the relaxations under Work from Home norms for all companies, till December 31, 2020.
This has cheered the entire IT industry.
Work From Home Extended Till December 31, 2020
Department of Telecom has extended the relaxations provided under Work From Home to IT and ITeS companies to year end.
This means that all IT companies in India can seamlessly allow work from home for their employees till year end.
The relaxations were earlier approved only till July 31st.
The notification from the Govt read: In view of the ongoing concerns due to Covid-19, the department has decided to further extend these relaxations upto Decmeber 31, 2020…”
IT Industry Cheers This Move
Entire IT industry has come together, and appreciated this decision by the Govt.
Debjani Ghosh, President of Nasscom, which is India’s most powerful lobby of IT and ITeS companies said, “Thank u @rsprasad n Secretary @DoT_India for your strong support for Indian IT. This will ensure business continuity n employee safety.. n also increase our talent pool to tier 2 n 3 cities,”
Meanwhile Rishad Premji, Chairman of Wipro tweeted: “Thank you to the government for their tremendous support on the new ways of working from day 1. This has helped tremendously in further elevating our standing and responsiveness globally,”
Infact, IT industry has been requesting a permanent change of rules and regulations pertaining to work from home norms from Department of Telecom.
As of now, around 95% of the IT employees are actually working from home, and some of the biggest IT firms such as TCS has announced that 75% of their employees will always work from home, even when the pandemic ends.
It seems that Work from Home is the new and permanent future of entire IT industry.
