Before the end of the financial year, the homegrown automaker, Tata Motors has announced to launch 2 new cars – the Gravitas 6-seater SUV and the HBX micro SUV.

Out of them, the company is planning to launch Gravitas during the coming festive season, mostly before Diwali.

Although, according to a new media report, Tata Motors could further delay the launch of the Gravitas.

Let’s go through the list of facts that one could admire about Tata’s upcoming three-row SUV.

1. 30 PS Additional Powertrains

earlier this year, the Harrier’s 2.0-litre Kryotec diesel engine was upgraded to pump out 30 PS additional power when the SUV was updated.

It is expected that the same powertrain will likely be offered with the Gravitas too.

With this upgraded pump, the oil burner generates 170 PS of maximum power, along with 350 Nm of peak torque.

Apart from that, the transmission duties are taken care of by a 6-speed manual gearbox, in addition to a Hyundai-sourced 6-speed torque converter automatic.

Further, the carmaker has also mentioned about a 1.5-liter direct-injection four-cylinder turbo petrol engine with the Gravitas, with a power output in the region of 150 PS.

2. Design, Dimensions & Platforms

You can say that the Gravitas is the three-row version of the Tata Harrier currently present on sale in the Indian market.

So it gets the same front design as the donor car, until the rear door.

The Gravitas also has an extended rear overhang in order to house the additional third row of sits.

So we can safely say that Gravitas will be based on the same OmegaArc platform as the Harrier, and both the SUVs will share the same 2,741 mm long wheelbase.

In terms of width, which is 1,894 mm is also the same as the Harrier, but the former is 63 mm longer and 80 mm taller than the five-seat car it is based on.

So that Gravitas can offer loads of additional space compared to the Harrier.

3. Safety And Other Features

If we talk about features, the Gravitas is expected to offer the same features as the car it is based on except the panoramic sunroof.

So the expected equipment list may have an 8.8-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an electrically adjustable driver’s seat, connected car-tech, a premium audio system from JBL, cruise control, an auto-dimming IRVM, a 7-inch display for the instrument cluster, and so on.

As per the reports, if the demand is right, Tata will also introduce a seven-seat variant.

For safety features, It is likely to introduce a hill hold control and hill hold descent, 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, traction control, rollover mitigation etc.

4. Price Range

Compared to Harrier, the Gravitas is expected to carry a premium of around Rs 1 lakh over the five-seat SUV.

So, Gravitas could be priced between Rs 14.5 lakh to Rs 21.5 lakh (ex-showroom).

5. Expected Launch Date

So far, the launch timeline for the Gravitas hasn’t officially been confirmed by Tata.

However, considering the previous speculations, the three-row car will be launched in the country in the second half of this year around the auspicious occasion of Diwali.
