The news about Tata Motors launching 10 new electric cars is coming straight from Shailesh Chandra, President of Tata Motors’ Passenger Vehicles Business.
Tata Motors currently sells two electric vehicles in India: the Tigor EV and the Nexon EV. The Tigor has a starting price of Rs 12.49 lakh, while the Nexon electric SUV has a starting price of Rs 14.99 lakh. The Nexon EV MAX, a long-range version of the Nexon EV, was recently released by the company. It is claimed to have a range of 437 kilometres.
Recently, Tata Motors’ chairperson Natarajan Chandrasekaran said during a shareholders’ meeting on Monday that by the end of the fiscal year ending March 31, the automaker aims to sell 50,000 electric vehicles.
According to the Chairman, Tata aims to hit 100,000 EV sales in the the 2023/24 period. Notably, Tata produces passenger cars, trucks, vans, coaches, buses, luxury cars, and construction equipment.
Tata Motors Commands 98% of Indian EV Market
Tata Motors along with MG Motors command 98% of the Indian EV market. EV car sales reached a new high of 0.7% of total car sales in the financial year 2021-2022. The Tata Nexon EV became the best-selling EV in India, its market share being a whopping 63%.
The Tata Tigor EV came in second place with its new battery and motor. It captured 24% of the Indian market share.
The domestic auto major Tata Motors has planned to up its production of electric vehicles to an optimistic count of over 80,000 units in the ongoing financial year, far ahead of what it had produced in the last.
Tata Motors has introduced its new electric SUV concept Avinya, which is also the debut of the company’s latest Gen 3 platform.
Tata Motors’s new concept “Avinya” is a Sanskrit word and it means innovation. The car maker plans to offer several segment-first tech and elements in this new EV. The concept also marked the debut of TPEML’s new brand logo, which shows an LED bar along the width of the model at the front and back and a T in the centre.
