So, is Vivo V17 Pro good enough? Let’s find out.

We got the device, and we tested all the features for a detailed review. We will be keeping it short and quick covering all the important points about the latest Vivo smartphone. Here goes our detailed review decoding all the Vivo V17 Pro features and specs.

Contents

Build & Design

Vivo V17 Pro comes with a high-quality glass sandwich premium body protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 6 on both sides. There’s some added gradient colour schemes. There’s a four camera vertical module at the middle of the back.

In terms of looks and build quality, Vivo V17 Pro does a good job here.

In all, it’s good and feels good to be used. The overall ergonomics are perfect, while the new 3D curves make it really easy to hold. The company has left no corners to offer a premium smartphone with the best of built quality.

Display

Vivo V17 Pro comes with a 6.6.44-inch Super AMOLED Full HD+ display offering a 91.65 percent screen-to-body ratio in an 20:9 aspect ratio. The screen has a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels sporting slim-bezels. It offers a more enhanced immersive viewing experience.

The display has very thin bezels. Vivo has done a great job in terms of the overall screen experience. It’s also an apt choice for content consumption.

The display is quite vibrant with minimal bezels on the sides with a little chin down under, and the AMOLED helps with the best .

Vivo V17 Pro also has an in-display optical fingerprint scanner, which takes 0.37 seconds to unlock. It’s very fast, and the device also supports face unlock. But there’s a catch. When you fail to unlock your device thrice via the in-display fingerprint sensor, then only the face unlock system works.

Hardware & Gaming Performance

The same Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 chipset has been used again for the Vivo V15 Pro successor. Based on an 11nm architecture, SD 675 couples with Adreno 612 GPU. The smartphone will be available in a lone variant offering 6GB of RAM and 128GB storage.

In terms of daily performance, Vivo V17 Pro can run almost all tasks and mid-end games without any hiccups.

The UI will play its own role where you may notice some negligible difference in daily use given the memory-heavy apps and social media.

V17 Pro does a great job when it comes to extended gaming and extensive multitasking. There’s no space for additional storage. The smartphone also offers some dedicated gaming features to offer an enhanced hassle-free gaming experience.

Software

Vivo V17 Pro also runs on Android 9 Pie, but with Funtouch 9.0 UI on top. The UI comes loaded with features and bloatware, and delivers a clean performance as any other non-stock device. There’s bloatware and customisations, but it isn’t bad.

The company has added a ton of features in their latest edition of the software, and it does look fresh and sorted.

The newly improved UI does offer some refreshing features compared to the previous OS with an easy-to-use overall structure and few tweaks.

Cameras

The four rear camera module on V17 Pro has been placed in a vertical manner in in the middle of the rear panel. The setup includes a 48-megapixel f/1.8 Sony IMX582 main shooter, a 13-megapixel f/2.5 telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom, an 8-megapixel f/2.2 super wide-angle camera and finally a fourth 2-megapixel depth sensor with an f/2.4 aperture.

There are different sensors available for different shooting modes, and they do a commendable job here.

Vivo V17 Pro can take good detailed and sharp pictures in bright light with accurate colours. In poorly lit conditions, the device manages to click decent photos with almost accurate details and colours and does an average job. We are yet to test the camera in-depth, but the initial results are very impressive.

The dynamic range is good and it captures quite accurate details and produce good colours.

Coming to the major USP, Vivo V17 Pro will come with a dual selfie pop-up camera system on the front, an upgrade over the current single camera sensor.

The two cameras pop-up setup features a 32-megapixel main selfie shooter and an 8-megapixel wide-angle shooter backed by a Moonlight flash. It comes with Pose Master feature which will suggest poses for selfies, based on your surroundings. There’s a Super Night Mode and Shot Refocus as well supported by Sapphire glass for scratches.

The selfies we took had a lot of details and it supports multiple shooting modes and filters to enhance selfies.

The AI-powered modes do a good job in terms of capturing details. The colours were a bit overdone and slightly artificial, but in overall, the front camera does a good job, be it wide shots or low light shots.

Vivo V17 Pro offered a good photography experience in overall managing great dynamic range with almost accurate colours irrespective of lighting conditions. It supports Google Camera and has a dedicated Night Mode for long-exposed shots.

The stock camera interface is quite minimal on both, and it’s loaded with AI-powered modes to enhance the overall photography. AI works on both sides to adjust to the particular lighting and adjust the filters.

Battery

Vivo V17 Pro packs in a larger 4,100mAh battery supporting 18W fast charging with USB type C support. The charge time may vary from 90 to 95 minutes. The smartphone ships with the 18W Dual-Engine fast charger inside the box.

It can easily last more than a day on heavy usage, and even a day and a half on moderate use.

With continuous video playback, gaming and performing multi-tasking processes, the new Vivo smartphone can easily shoot up for a whole day without being charged.

Pricing & Availability

Vivo V17 Pro will be available in a single variant at Rs 29,990 with 8GB RAM and 128GB internal storage. The pre-orders open today, and the device will go on sale starting next week on September 27.  Vivo V17 Pro will be available in two colour variants: Glacier Blue and Midnight Ocean.

The lone 8GB RAM and 128GB storage model can be purchased both online and offline, unlike the latest Z-series smartphones.

Vivo V17 Pro will be available via majority of Vivo retail units across the country starting next week. For online purchases, you can visit any of these portals: Vivo India online store, Paytm Mall, Flipkart, Amazon and Tata Cliq.

The launch offers include 10 additional cashback for payments via HDFC Bank cards and ICICI Bank cards or are HDB financed.

Verdict: Vivo V17 Pro Justifies The Price?

Vivo V17 Pro offer some excellent features at an entry-level flagship pricing. In all, Vivo V17 Pro packs in a solid performance backed by a good processor, AMOLED display, a large battery, quad cameras with the 48MP lens backing it up, a dual selfie pop-up camera and a big battery with fast charging capabilities.

Given the price to performance ratio, Vivo V17 Pro may face some heat against Redmi K20 Pro, Asus 6Z or OnePlus 7.

The smartphone is available at Rs 29,990, and the Snapdragon 675 could be a bummer for some. Though, the smartphone aims to deliver more of a better camera experience than hardcore performance. If you are looking for a better gaming smartphone at under 30,000, this device isn’t for you.

Vivo V17 Pro is more of a premium camera smartphone with everything you would need. Snapdragon 675 isn’t bad, and can be a good driver for daily tasks, but it can’t level up Snapdragon 855 on K20 Pro, 6Z or OnePlus 7.

So, that’s the baseline.

In all, the new Vivo V17 Pro ticks all the boxes right. It packs in a solid mid-range gaming performance backed, immersive notch-less AMOLED display, multi camera setup powered by the 48MP Sony sensor, larger battery, fast charging, in-display fingerprint sensor and finally a dual pop-up selfie camera.
