Sonakshi Sinha Gets Junk, Instead Of Headphones From Amazon: Here Are Top 5 Ecommerce Blunders!

Who knew celebrities, just like us common people opt for online shopping as a way to avoid the tedious tasks of dressing up and stepping out of the house to buy necessities! Who knew that online shopping portals do not spare celebrities from suffering the hardships they put us commoners through?

The recent case of Sonakshi Sinha receiving a piece of metal junk from Amazon when she ordered for Bose headphones worth Rs. 18000 has made headlines. This again highlights the negligence of online shopping platforms towards their biggest problem – trust.

Sonakshi Sinha, who chose to skip the hassles of going out to shop for a pair of headphones, ordered them from Amazon for not less than Rs. 18000. But when she received her parcel, although the box looked good enough to be authentic, the headphones were replaced by an actual piece of metal junk! The actress posted pictures of the box and the metal piece on her Twitter which, soon enough became viral and Amazon was roasted by the Twitterati. 

What fanned the flames was her tweet wherein she said, ‘Oh and your customer service doesn’t even want to help, that’s what makes it even worse.’

But this is not the first time online shoppers have been cheated by these portals who show one thing and deliver something totally different.

Here are some cases where online shopping portals like Amazon, Flipkart, Snapdeal messed up their customers’ orders:

  • Vaibhav Vasant Kamble, Mumbai, had placed an order for two new phones on Flipkart. While the package was delivered on time, the box contained a bar of soap and a packet of washing powder in place of the phone. He filed a case against Flipkart, who assured him that help will be provided to him, but later went back on their word and ignored his calls altogether. Kamble then registered a complaint at the Bandra-Kurla Complex police station. The case is yet to be resolved.
  • Laxminarayan Krishnamurthy, who was waiting for a Samsung Galaxy smartphone, instead received a Vim soap bar in his package. He posted the disaster on Facebook and was reimbursed the full amount that he paid. But what won everyone’s hearts was the reaction of Hindustan Unilever, the manufacturer of Vim soap bars. HUL went out of its way and gifted Krishnamurthy the exact model of Samsung Galaxy smartphone he had previously ordered just to ‘cheer him up’! Isn’t that ultra-nice? Read the whole story here.
  • Another similar incident was when Rakesh Chhabria ordered a new smartphone on Amazon. Apparently, Chhabria became suspicious on the grubby state of the package he received. Imagine his shock when he found out he paid Rs. 33000 for a huge rock! Rakesh called and emailed Amazon regarding this and was promised support, but even after a week from the incident, no action was taken.
  • Recently, Tabrej Mehaboob Nagrali ordered an iPhone 8 on Flipkart for no less than 55000 bucks but his delivery package contained – a detergent bar again! Nagrali immediately registered a complaint against Flipkart at the Byculla police station.
  • Snapdeal had made an extravagant offer of selling iPhones at an unbelievable value of Rs. 68 only. Nikhil Bansal from Punjab University, amazed by such a cheap deal on a premium smartphone, ordered an iPhone 5S from Snapdeal. But his order was canceled and he never received the iPhone. He complained about this to the consumer forum who passed a judgment in his favor and ordered Snapdeal to give Bansal a, iPhone at Rs. 68. But, Snapdeal hadn’t had enough! They decided to fight back and had to pay an extra fine to close the case. Read the whole story here.

What with Amazon, Flipkart, and Snapdeal making such blunders and delivery executives stealing food meant for customers, it’s becoming more and more difficult to order anything online these days.
