In the nascent but ever-changing market of on-demand entertainment, there is some interesting news coming up related to the market share of major OTTs like Netflix, Amazon, Zee5, Hotstar in India.
While Netflix has roped in Bollywood stars like Kareena Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit, Anil Kapoor for their exclusive show, we have received the latest numbers related to national reach and time spent per session.
And surprise! Zee5’s popularity is increasing at an amazing pace, even as Hotstar is still #1.

Madhuri Dixit, Kareena Kapoor Join Netflix Show
Netflix has secured a major deal with Bollywood heartthrobs Kareena Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit, Anil Kapoor, and others for their new exclusive show: Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle.
Directed by Andy Serkis, this will be another adaptation of Rudyard Kipling’s 1864 classic The Jungle Book, and will premiere on December 7th.

While Kareena Kapoor will voice Ka, the hypnotic python, Abhishek Bachchan will voice Bagheera and Anil Kapoor will be behind Balloo.
Jackie Shroff too has been roped in for Shere Khan.
This is a major success for Netfix, as some of the top tier Bollywood actors have agreed to joined this exclusive show, and create a sensation in the on-demand entertainment niche.
Earlier this month, we had reported that Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan and Baahubali franchise have also joined Netflix’s team.
Zee5 Beats JioTV In Latest Ranking
This year, Jio TV has made a solid mark in the challenging market of on-demand entertainment, as players like Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hotstar and others are already present.
However now, a new player is threatening not only Jio TV, but other as well.
Zee5, which is the video-on-demand service from Zee Televisions, has suddenly picked up steam, and in the recent ranking of session time (time spent on per session, by users), they have beaten JioTV, Netflix and Amazon Prime.
In this ranking, Zee5 is ranked #2, only behind market leader Hotstar, whereas Jio TV is ranked #3. Netflix is at #7 and Amazon Prime is at distant #9 in the ranking.
Zee5 was launched in February this year and went global across 199 countries last month.
However, in terms of National reach, Hotstar is still #1 with 30% share, followed by Jio TV at #2 with 23% share. Amazon Prime is at #3 with 10% share.
Netflix and SonyLiv, both have 6-6.5% share. With Netflix securing some top the line exclusive shows, it would be interesting to observe how the market dynamics now changes.
