Reliance Jio’s next disruption will be original TV & web based series, and the foundation has already been laid.

As per incoming reports coming in, Jio is in the process to establish their own production house, and the first web series will be out in next 6 months.

It seems Jio now wants to compete against Netflix and Amazon Prime in the on-demand entertainment sector.

We had received hint about Jio’s own production house and their own exclusive TV series last year, but now, this is confirmed.

Jio’s Own Production House!

Jio has recently hired Jyoti Deshpande as head of the media and entertainment business at RIL. She was formerly working as chief executive officer and managing director at Eros.

In a recent interview, she confirmed that around 20-25 screenwriters and creative personals have already been hired, and work is in full swing right now.

In the next 4-6 months, Jio’s own production house is expected to release their first web series, exclusively for their 215 million+ subscribers.

VR Movies Coming Soon?

As per reports, Jio has tied up with Whistling Woods International, which is Subhash Ghai owned media arts institute.

As per the agreement, Jio will set up a Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality lab at their location, wherein filmmakers would be encouraged to make VR-based movies.

If this is true, then Jio will establish a new benchmark within on-demand entertainment sector.

The report says that Jio is clearly impressed with the reach and popularity of Netflix and Amazon Prime, which offers exclusive TV and web series. Now, Netflix has decided to side with Airtel, which is one another reason why Jio has decided to setup their own production house.

And the game-plan is to not only replicate them, but also beat them.

JioGiga TV – The Perfect Foundation

Producing TV shows and web series is not a big deal, but arranging an audience is the most difficult part.

Jio has clearly understood the market dynamics, because first they will establish the audience and the platform in the form of Jio GigaTV, and then offer content to their users.

Jio GigaTV is based on their FTTH service Jio GigaFiber, and will rolled out possibly by end of the year. As soon as the service rolls out, they will have their own content ready, which will be exclusive and tailor-made for their audience.

Recently, Jio Chairman Mukesh Ambani had said that now Jio users are watching 340 crore hours of videos/month on their platform compared to 165 crore hours/month a year back.

Jio has clearly understood that videos  and on-demand entertainment is the sector which will grow all out in coming days.

And they have uniquely positioned themselves to grab this opportunity.
