BSNL’s upcoming 4G services is right now one of the most talked about news in the country. Although Jio and to some extent Airtel has captured the 4G niche, and Vodafone-Idea is closely trailing behind, BSNL’s entry into 4G services will change the game.

Right now, BSNL is testing their 4G services in the Idukki district in Kerala, and some initial reactions have come in, which tells us that BSNL’s 4G services will be as good as Jio, Airtel’s services.

Here are the details..

As per the screenshot, BSNL 4G is able to give 18.1 Mbps speed for download, and 5.98 Mbps speed for upload.

Now, this speed is as good as what Jio and Airtel give, under normal conditions.

What Is Jio, Airtel’s 4G Speed?

As per TRAI’s 4G speed rankings, Jio users were able to get 22.3 Mbps speed for 4G download in the month of September, whereas Airtel users were able to get 10 Mbps speed.

Hence, if we believe the BSNL’s 4G speed screenshot as shared by TelecomTalk, they are giving better speed than Airtel, and slightly less that Jio is able to give.

In the month of July too, similar 4G speeds were experienced by Jio and Airtel users. Both Vodafone and Idea were hovering around 6-7 Mbps 4G download speed.

Besides, 5.98 Mbps 4G upload speed of BSNL is quite an achievement since, besides Jio, no other provider is able to provide that, right now.

How’s BSNL 4G Coming Up?

As per latest numbers coming in, BSNL has converted 250 towers in the Idukki district to 4G. Hence, users can either opt for 2G services, or 4G services.

No 3G service is now available in the Idukki district.

In case any user in Idukki district has old SIM card, they can go to the nearest BSNL outlet, and opt for a new 4G SIM. In case of the old SIM, the user will be automatically connected with the 2G network.

Besides, BSNL is also testing 4G services in Nagpur rural area and Bhiwapur city. In the coming days, these 10 circles are expected to have 4G services from BSNL: Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Goa, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Telangana.

BSNL has already partnered with Nokia for rolling out 4G services pan-India, and they are providing all back-end support.

We will keep you updated, as more details come in.
