The 152-year-old telecommunication behemoth Nokia has joined forces with India’s oldest telco BSNL to launch 4G services across 10 major circles in India.

In a related news, BSNL has launched a new postpaid plan, called ‘Ghar Wapsi’ or Homecoming, for luring back their loyal customers.

India’s only state carrier and 4th largest telecom company, BSNL, has decided to join forces with Nokia in order to expand their 4G presence across India.

BSNL has rolled out their 4G services only in Kerala as of now.

Earlier, Airtel too had partnered with Nokia for launching and expanding their 4G services across India.

The 10 circles where BSNL’s 4G will be launched are Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Goa, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Telangana.

Nokia announced this major initiative at the ongoing Mobile World Congress, 2018 at Barcelona, Spain.

Sanjay Malik, head of India Market at Nokia said,

“We are pleased to continue our long-standing relationship with BSNL on this important project in India. The deployment of our technologies will enable BSNL to launch exciting new voice and data services, satisfying growing demand in India.”

In an technological innovation, Nokia will use Single Radio Access Network (RAN) to deploy BSNL’s 4G network. This will enable the state carrier to use a single hub to maintain 2G, 3G and 4G users, in a single circle.

Nokia Global Services will deploy Nokia Single RAN software, IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), Session Border Controller (SBC), CloudBand, Monetization Solution, Performance Manager, IP/MPLS and Wavence microwave technologies.

BSNL’s Ghar Wapsi Postpaid Plan Launched

Meanwhile, in order to lure their loyal customers, who have strayed away from them, BSNL has launched a new Ghar Wapsi or Homecoming Offer for postpaid users.

For just Rs 399, postpaid users can now get unlimited calling without any FUP, along with 30 GB per month of 3G and 4G data.

This new plan is compatible with any postpaid plan of private telecom player. In fact, in some cases, even better. For instance, Airtel offers 20GB in their Rs 399 postpaid plan Idea’s Nirvana postpaid plan of Rs 389 gives 20 GB data.

However, BSNL has decided not to include SMS in this plan.

BSNL’s Ghar Wapsi plan will be applicable effective March 1st, 2018.
