Oppo Launches Realme 1 Under New Sub-Brand

In spite of extensive marketing and rigorous sponsorships, both Oppo and Vivo have failed to beat their Chinese counterpart, Xiaomi, in India, who in comparison does almost zero marketing. The main USP of Xiaomi smartphones in India has been quality offering at budget-friendly prices, and within three years the company holds a 31.1 percent market share and is the number one smartphone brand in India.

Now, Oppo is trying to follow a similar business model where the company will mainly focus on the product rather than just a selfie camera and advertisements. It has now launched a sub-brand called ‘Realme’ to compete with Xiaomi in the budget and mid-budget segments.

Realme – Oppo’s Answer To Xiaomi

The Realme 1
The Realme 1

The first smartphone under the sub-brand Realme 1 has already been listed on the Amazon India website. The Realme 1 will be exclusively available online through Amazon India and the listing reveals that smartphone will be available from May 15.

The listing on Amazon India does not reveal anything about the price or features. The company has said that Realme will focus on the needs of online consumers through its unique design, specs and cutting-edge technology with an overall better quality.

The durability of Realme 1 has been touted as one of the strong points of the smartphone as the listing on Amazon India claims that Realme can sustain up to 10,000 drop tests, 1,00,000 button tests and 10,000 USB tests.

Oppo has said that it will be offering a guaranteed 1-hour service for most of the cases at its 500+ authorized service centres across the country.

As per the early reports, the newly launched Oppo sub-brand Realme will take on market leader Xiaomi and other mid-budget brands. The pricing and specifications are not out yet, so it’s still not clear whether Realme can compete with Xiaomi or not. Oppo will get into a strategic partnership with Amazon India to sell its Realme smartphones.

Realme 1 – Expected Specifications & Pricing

A Diamond Black colour option has already been confirmed in the listing, and the Realme 1 looks very similar to OPPO A3. The Realme 1 expected to come with budget specifications like a Full HD+ 18:9 display, a mid-range processor, 2GB or 3GB of RAM, 32GB and 64GB storage options with a dedicated microSD card slot for memory expansion. The smartphone will feature a single camera at the back.

The Realme 1 is expected to be priced somewhere below Rs 15,000 as Oppo is looking to take on other mid-range top-selling smartphones like Redmi 5, Xiaomi Redmi Note 5, Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro, Honor 7X and more.

Oppo Will Assemble PCB Units in India For New Sub-brand ‘Realme’

Oppo is assembling the printed circuit boards (PCBs) for Realme at the second plant of Oppo in India. The second unit which has a production capacity of 50 million phones, is going to produce phone exclusively for Realme.

The phones from Realme will primarily fall into the category between Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 to compete with the midrange best-selling brands like Xiaomi, Samsung, Motorola and others in India.

The new Oppo sub-brand Realme is looking to take on the Indian budget smartphone market with a massive scale of production and variety.
