Xiaomi entered the Indian market back in 2014 and in just 3 years, has tied with Samsung as the largest smartphone maker in India.

The company took the Indian smartphone market by storm with their affordable range of reliable products. Today the company has the right balance of features and price among different categories, in the country.

To re-iterate their commitment to the Make in India initiative by the Indian Government, the Chinese smartphone maker has announced another manufacturing unit in the country.

Xiaomi’s 1st Non-smartphone Manufacturing Unit

This is Xiaomi’s 3rd manufacturing plant in India and their first non-smartphone unit. It will presently handle assembly of power banks. It is located in Noida, Uttar Pradesh.

Spread over 2.3 lakh square feet, the all new manufacturing unit in Noida is a fully dedicated plant for Xiaomi’s power banks where their newly launched Mi Power Bank 2i will be assembled.

Presently, the unit is capable of churning out seven power banks per minute.

Xiaomi already had two smartphone manufacturing units in India at Sri City, Andhra Pradesh where the company assembles over 95% of the smartphones Xiaomi sells in India.

Xiaomi has been teasing a new product on their social media channels, and it finally revealed a new line of India-made Xiaomi power banks.

The company has launched the latest Mi Power Bank 2i. This newly launched power bank will be available in two capacities – 10,000mAh at Rs. 799/-, and 20,000mAh at Rs. 1,499/-.

The company said, power banks has been specially designed and priced based on the feedback of Mi fans community.

Both the models of the new 2i will come with dual-USB output support with a premium aluminium metal casing and a double anodized surface.

Mi Power Bank 2i: 10,000mAh

The 10,000mAh Mi Power Bank 2i from Xiaomi will cost Rs. 799/-.

The new Mi Power Bank 2i sports lithium-polymer batteries which have been encased in a 14.2mm slim form factor. The company has seen immense success in the last few quarters with exponential growth in the country, and currently it enjoys the top spot as market leader in the smartphone segment in India.

What The Future Holds

The company has been able to provide quality technology at affordable prices, and assembling locally in the country has helped the company to meet the product demand. As in China, Xiaomi is trying to build a more localised company, complete with its own ecosystem.

Xiaomi presently holds 23.5% market share in the country, and the company has shipped over 9.2 million smartphones in the third quarter in 2017.

It is also the fastest growing smartphone brand in India with a growth rate of around 300% year-on-year basis in the third quarter this year.

Redmi Note 4 still remain the best-selling smartphone from Xiaomi in India as they have sold over four million units till date.

Whatever the future holds, Xiaomi is here to stay.
