Google Cloud Platform’s first region in India is Mumbai.

Is Google aiming to dominate the $1.8 billion Cloud Services market in India?

Google Cloud Platform Makes India Debut

Mumbai is now Google’s first ever Google Cloud Platform (GCP) region in India, as they have launched their India-specific services.

Hence, Google Cloud users can now select Mumbai as a region, which will help Indian users to offer their services more faster, more accurately.

Earlier, the closes Cloud region for Indians are Singapore.

As per Google, this new region in Mumbai will improve latency from 20-90%, especially for users from Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru and Delhi.

On the launch, Google cloud Platform’s product manager Dave Stiver said,

“The new region will help customers build applications and store their data, and significantly improve latency for customers and end users in the area,”

Other Cloud regions in Asia Pacific region are: Taiwan, Sydney and Tokyo.

Google’s Cloud Dominance Push In India

Google is now all set to invest $30 billion to expand their Indian operations, and set up three more regions besides Mumbai.

Google’s newest Cloud region in Mumbai will help developers and programmers to host, deploy and test their app, at the same place, hence save time and resources.

There are mainly three layers in the Mumbai region, which allows the developers to:

  • Compute, using App Engine, Compute Engine and Container Engine
  • Implement Big Data using Cloud Dataflow, Cloud Dataproc, Cloud Datalab
  • Execute Storage using  Cloud Datastore,  Cloud SQL, Persistent Disk
  • Carry out Networking using Autoscaler, Cloud DNS, Cloud VPN and more.

In their blog, Google said,

“If you’d like to privately connect to the Mumbai region, we offer Dedicated Interconnect at two locations, these locations are GPX Mumbai and Tata Mumbai IDC.

Right now, Google Cloud Platform already serves clients such as Hungama, DB Corp and more, and with their new region in Mumbai, Google certainly aims to challenge Amazon and Microsoft in grabbing more market share in the Cloud Services market.
