How to..?

In 2021, topping the list of what India searched for in Google is ‘How to register for Covid vaccine’.

It makes sense since the nationwide vaccination drive against Covid started in January this year, with most looking to inoculate themselves against the pestering virus.

Covid Dominates Lists

The top 5 in the ‘How To’ category are populated by Covid-related questions, with the exception of #4 in which people googled “How to link PAN with Aadhaar”.

The second most searched topic was ‘How to download vaccination certificate.’

At number 3 is “How to increase oxygen level”, presumably around the time when the devastating second wave of the pandemic hit the country.

At number 5 is ‘How to make oxygen at home’.

Biggest Movies

Moving on to a lighter subject, the top 5 movies searched in India include one Hollywood movie, the Eternals at number 5.

The first four are Jai Bhim, Shershaah, Radhe and Bell Bottom.

After eternals, the last 5 in the top 10 are Master, Sooryavanshi, Godzilla Vs Kong, Drishyam 2 and Bhuj: The Pride Of India.

Biggest Personalities

The top 5 personalities in the Google trends results are an eclectic mix.

For an obviously good reason is Neeraj Chopra, India’s golden boy at number 1.

For more dubious reasons is Aryan Khan at number 2, and Raj Kundra at number 4.

Shehnaaz Gill is at number 3.

Rounding out the top 5 is Elon Musk.

Biggest News

The biggest news events that got the whole country talking are diverse as well.

Tokyo Olympics takes the top position, followed by black fungus.

The Afghanistan takeover by Taliban and related news is at number 3.

The West Bengal elections is at number 4 followed by tropical cyclone Tauktae.

Top Overall Topics

We’d be remiss without taking a look at what the overall dominant topics were this year.

Most of the topics were in relation to sports in a year that was chock full of major sporting events.

At number one is the Indian Premier League or IPL. It is followed by:

  • CoWIN

  • COVID Vaccine
