RCom Shutting CDMA Services From Tomorrow. Here Are Your Best Alternatives.

Reliance CDMA Dongle Mobile Users

As already announced, Reliance CDMA would shutting down its CDMA services from tomorrow, that is 31 May 2016.

I have been a fan of Reliance Communications’ CDMA services for the last 3 years. Their CDMA network was nothing but amazing and their decision to shut down the network with a notice of less than a month came as a surprise to all their users.

Now that Reliance CDMA is shutting down for good, we need to start looking for other options. Had RCom shut its CDMA services a few months back, I would have moved to TATA CDMA services. But even that is not an option now.

BSNL CDMA is still operational in many telecom circles so that is your only CDMA option now.

Try BSNL CDMA

BSNL CDMA base plan is offering 60 p/min call rate for all calls made within the home circle to BSNL connections and 90p/min for all other calls made to any number within the home circle. STD calling is fixed at Rs. 1.2/min for all calls.

Talking about the prepaid tariffs, BSNL is offering 1 GB data for Rs. 100 and also has an unlimited usage plan for Rs. 250.

Switch To RCom GSM Effortlessly

Another good option would be to go Reliance GSM network. Reliance has been working continuously on improving its GSM network so it wouldn’t hurt to try out their services. All you need to do is recharge your number with a 4G upgrade pack for your region, buy a 4G for Rs. 25, and you’re good to go.

What Should Reliance CDMA Dongle Users Do?

Reliance Communications is also offering very attractive 4G upgrade plans for its CDMA dongle users as well. You would be getting 10 GB of 4G data with a validity of 28 or 30 days depending upon your region. Go to Reliance 4G upgrade page for more details.

A good thing about upgrading to RCom 4G network is that you are not porting your number. You can try RCom 4G for a while, if you don’t like it then you can port to any other operator of your choice whenever you want.

I am personally switching to RCom 4G for now and will share my experience with you at the earliest. Stay tuned!

Every body is talking about G4 as an alternative. I would like to know how to use the CDMA based handset for other services inclusive of G4. The app. cost of smart handset is nearly Rs. 10000/- Is the money spent on CDMA based handset gone to drain . Why Relaince should not compensate the loss by purchasing these handsets at a app. price of say Rs. 5to 6000/-

If deceision CDMA shut down, you notice everybody before 1 month.you send message about shutdown 2-3 days before, why ?

  16. Anand Kumar says

Reliance is porting it’s customer here in Patna instead of swapping existing sim with 4G. All such customers will loose their balance and existing benefits. I today meet a person who has more than 4500 balance in his Phone. Now the retailers even Reliance own store is suggesting him to port to Reliance 2G/3G, and loose his balance. He was quite upset and frustrated.

Could you ask RCom about the issue. Well, There are some lucky people how managed to get a 4G sim.

  18. Jitendra says

Reliance’s service has been nothing less than shabby. If this is at all true can’t understand how are they even allowed to do so at such a short notice. Personally its one of the worst service provider but is somehow still surviving …god knows how!!

  20. P2 says

Why did you say so..”I would have moved to TATA CDMA services. But even that is not an option now.”

    1. Saurabh says

I do not know but I think TATA CDMA services are being closed. It is not clear why the writer would prefer CDMA. There must be some reasons that all CDMA operators have moved to GSM.

      1. Nirad Patkhedkar says

CDMA is royalty based technology of Qualcomm while GSM is open source.
CDMA operators shot in their foot when they introduced sim less handsets as it was seen as binding by the customers and non-availability of CDMA handsets proved a major factor for its fall. CDMA is far better than GSM and in USA almost 80% users are CDMA.

      2. P2 says

Only TATA/Reliance (and MTNL/BSNL) were on CDMA. All other started with GSM. I am using TATA CDMA and it provides the best voice/data service (comparing with my numbers of MTNL/IDEA/Voda)

    2. vikrant says

they are closing cdma in many circles
