PM Modi, India’s Prime Minister will today inaugurated World’s largest smartphone factory in Noida.

Samsung has set-up this factory to tap into the lucrative and fast growing smartphone market in India. Out of a population of 1.3 billion, India has currently only 425 million smartphone users.

Political pundits have already described this inauguration by PM Modi has a major political score, as this can be showcased as the perfect implementation of #DigitalIndia and #MakeInIndia vision.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in, who is visiting India for the first time along with PM Modi will jointly inaugurate this factory.

Samsung’s Noida Factory: Few Highlights

Called as Samsung Electronics facility, this massive plant is spread over 35 acres of land in Noida Sector 81 area. As per reports, this factory can manufacture 120 million smartphones per year. 35,000 new jobs would be generated due to this new factory. 

Right from low end sub Rs 10000 to the high end Galaxy and S9 series would be manufactured.

The factory is set-up inside Samsung’s existing plant which was launched in early 1990s. This was one of the first electronics manufacturing plants in the country, and it started manufacturing TVs in 1997.

Mobile manufacturing was added in 2005.

Last year, Samsung announced budget of Rs 4915 crore to expand the phone manufacturing factory, and now, the plant is ready to manufacture almost every model of Samsung.

The new updated and enhanced facility will also manufacture refrigerators and flat panel televisions, and help Samsung to make further inroads into the electronics market of India.

Right now, Samsung manufacturers 67 million smartphones in India. Hence, the new factory will double their production.

As of now, Samsung has two manufacturing units in India: Besides Noida, they have a unit in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu and 5 research and development centres.

70,000 employees are currently working for Samsung, and they are looking forward to expand their offline presence to 1.5 lakh retail outlets.

Boost For Make In India Vision!

On several levels, the inauguration of this new factory is a major boost for Make in India vision, and a strong signal to China, which is dominating the manufacturing niche since long.

Besides Samsung, companies like Apple, Xiaomi, Sony, Dell, OnePlus, LG and others have already launched their own factories in India, and embraced Make in India vision.

Launch of such a massive smartphone factory in India by Samsung will no doubt rattle China, and we may expect some interesting comments from them, soon.
