Minister Asks Zomato To Stop 10-Mins Food Delivery: Unsafe For Delivery Partners, Can Lead To Traffic Rules Violation

Speaking about the Zomato’s new feature promising delivery of food within 10 minutes, Narottam Mishra, Home Minister of Madhya Pradesh said that it could potentially jeopardize the life of delivery persons and people on roads. He has exhorted the company to change the rules of the quick delivery plans.

A Dig At Zomato’s New Feature

The Home Minister on Friday said that the company shall not be allowed to violate traffic rules. He added that Zomato will be held responsible if the cases of violation of traffic rules and accidents during the instant delivery process occur.

He said that “Zomato’s plan of delivering food in 10 minutes is like playing with the lives of its employees (delivery partners) as well as the lives of other people. Let alone Zomato, no one will be allowed to violate traffic rules in Madhya Pradesh. I am exhorting Zomato to change these plans”.

He said that it is only possible to reach the destination within 10 minutes if the delivery person drives rashly and dangerously. Mishra added that the “The company will be responsible for any mishap and rules’ violation.”

Clarification For Zomato’s Founder

On Monday, Zomato founder Deepinder Goyal announced that the company plans to start a pilot of ‘Zomato Instant’ with four stations in Gurugram from April.

Post the announcement of the company’s new feature, the company clarified that there are no penalties for late deliveries and no incentives for on-time deliveries for both 10-minute and 30-minute deliveries.

In a series of tweets, Goyal said that the 10-minute delivery will be for specific nearby locations, the popular and standardised menu only.
