Engineers all over the world are fans of Iron Man ( A famous character from Marvel Comics and Cinematic Universe). The Iron Man triumphs all the wars using a futuristic war suit. One of the fascinating things about this suit is, it comes with an Augmented Reality (AR) Screen which splashes all the information of objects the Iron Man lays eyes on in Real-Time.

It looks like this Sci-Fi fantasy might soon become a reality as according to reports Google is working on a similar kind of technology.

Google is working on AR Smart Glasses

Google has always kept mum about its augmented reality hardware project. This might have started to change in recent times. A recently published report has given an explicit confirmation that “Google is working on a new iteration of smart glasses.”

This report was first published in the New York Times today explicitly said that Google is “nurturing a new project.” According to the report, this latest project was the result of last year’s North acquisition. That’s unfortunately the extent of details, with the company declining to comment.

Still, it’s unclear whether Google plans to release a stopgap headset or whether it’s entirely focused on the smart glasses form factor. According to rumors, Apple’s first device which is scheduled to be launched next year will be a reality headset that can be used for AR development in addition to virtual reality, through the use of a pass-through camera where users can view the real world through a video feed rather than directly.

Acquisition of North is driving the project at Google

In June 2020, Google acquired North, the Canadian Augmented Reality Start-Up. After the acquisition only it had already stopped selling Focals 1.0 and decided to cancel Focals 2.0. After the acquisition various leads and engineers at the start-up are now part of the Devices & Services division at Google that’s responsible for Pixel, Nest, and other hardware.

This strategic organizational placement of skilled human resources makes sense ahead of an eventual consumer product. At the same time, the team building an Augmented Reality OS is also situated under Devices & Services.

So, are you excited about these Google AR Glasses or not? We surely are.
