A survey taken by NASSCOM reports that both IT workers and their employers want to return to offices.
The survey was conducted to learn about the industry’s plans to return to offices, take feedback on employees’ and their employers’ expectations and preparedness.

Work From Office 3x A Week?
Majority of companies at 81% are placing priority on employee health and safety when it comes to making plans for office return.
The report, titled ‘NASSCOM Return to Workplace Survey’, says that nearly half of the total IT workforce in India could join offices for up to three days a week from 2022.
However, the transition from remote working to offices will be done on a hybrid schedule involving both models.
Preference For Hybrid Work
Although the pandemic has revolutionised the method of working with remote working becoming the norm, it is however “not an evolved approach to workplace planning”, says Sashi Kumar, head of sales (India) at Indeed.com.
Indeed’s data suggested that employees are seeking flexible workplaces which give them work life balance.
While permanent remote work is unlikely to continue, both employers and employees can meet in the middle by switching to a hybrid model.
Juniors And Women Most Interested
Reportedly, junior employees under 25 have expressed the most interest in rejoining offices, trailed by the senior ranks over 40.
Women in IT have also evinced the same level of interest in returning to the workplace and adjusting to new working models.
About 72% of organizations intend to operate with a maximum capacity of 50% workforce from 2022.
Notably, tech giants such as TCS, Infosys, Wipro and others have already started calling their senior associates to the office desks at least twice a week.
Wipro
Wipro CEO and Managing Director Thierry Delaporte said that it is bringing its people back to offices in a staggered manner.
In India, its senior colleagues join offices twice a week.
TCS
Nearly the entirety of its workforce, at 95%, have received a single jab of the vaccine and over 70% have received both.
With that in mind, it is planning to bring everyone back to offices by the end of the year.
IBM
Instead of developing an India-specific plan, it is extending the rules it applies globally.
For example, it has extended the remote working advisory to its staff in India.
It will have everyone return to offices in phases with decisions made based on data, “evidence-based practices and policies that safeguard them”.
Until then, work from home will continue.
Responding to the findings of the report, Nasscom President Debjani Ghosh said that firms are looking to shift to a hybrid operating model which combines the best onsite and remote work models have to offer.
