Telecom Watchdog, a non-profit organisation, has requested the intervention of a sector regulator to file a criminal case against SpaceX.

The criminal case stems from the company’s pre-booking of space broadband plans for Indian consumers.

“You are requested to take immediate action to stop this illegal activity of Starlink, and order filing of the criminal case against the company under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for cheating”


In a letter to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India secretary V Raghunandan, dated September 29, the organisation said.

The group demanded a decisive actions to assure a refund with interest and chastised officials from the telecom department (DoT) for their “inaction” on the current problem.

According to Telecom Watchdog, Starlink has yet to get a licence in India to provide satellite-based communication or Satcom services.

It is unethical business practises, according to the corporation, and clients will only be allowed to see the terms and conditions after paying a deposit.
