Usually mobile manufacturers support a smartphone for 2-3 years.

Although, a common belief is that updates should be released within 5 years.

It is logical too as in the modern world there are many models that are quite competitive in performance and functionality even after 2-3 years.

Controversy For Support

In a recent development, Germany proposed to the European Union to oblige all manufacturers to release security patches and spare parts for devices within 7 years.

Further, the initiative received a strong response and even caused a lot of controversy.

Interestingly, these twists and turns seem to not pass by Xiaomi as it quickly reacts to everything.

Xiaomi Announced Support For Four Years

On September 9, Xiaomi announced its upcoming Xiaomi Mi 11 T and 11T Pro smartphones will receive three major Android updates and will receive security patches for four years

For the unaware, the duo of these affordable flagships will be debuting on September 15th this year.

With this move, Xiaomi will become the third company after Samsung and OnePlus to release security patches for their devices within 4 years.

Longer Support For Other Devices

In addition to this, Xiaomi is also exploring the possibility of offering longer support for its other devices as well.

It is unlikely though that Xiaomi’s affordable gadgets will receive such a privilege.

It seems that four years of the arrival of security patches is a more likely prospect for flagships.

So, the Xiaomi Mi 11 series and Xiaomi Mi Mix 4 can make such an exception.

Launch Of Multiple Devices On September 15
