Tata-Owned Vistara Gets Approval To Start India-US Flights: Launch Date, Fare & More

It is unlikely that Vistara will begin operations this month.

Vistara has been cleared by the United States Department of Transportation (DOT) to operate flights between the US and India.

The DOT received no objections so now Vistara is empowered to operate US flights as it sees fit.

Apart from running scheduled commercial flights between the 2 countries carrying people, property, and mail, the airliner can also fly cargo and charter flights.

Compliance

It has to follow regulations put forward by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Transportation Security Administration (TSA), and DOT.

As long as there is compliance, it can provide international transportation services between the US and India.

The regulations include those relating to safety and security as well as passenger services and refunds.

When Will Flights Resume?

However, it is unlikely that Vistara will begin operations this month since it has passed its previous set deadline of Sep 2021.

Additionally, the US still has a travel ban in place for passengers coming from India.

US Travel Ban Exceptions

There are exceptions such as US citizens and their families, legal permanent residents, and students.

Nonetheless, the situation is not conducive enough for the company to begin long haul flights yet.

It might reconsider its plans if it gets profitable access at some very competitive airports.

Routes

Starting from Mumbai or Delhi, its Boeing 787-9 aircraft can fly to San Francisco, Chicago, New York, Boston, and Washington D.C.

It could reach further places like Dallas, Houston, Miami, and more if it operates indirect flights with a stop in between in Europe or Canada.

India Extends Travel Ban

In other news, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has extended the international flight ban to September 30.

The ban has been extended by a month since the previous date was August 31.

Those exempted include International all-cargo operations and flights specifically approved by DGCA
