BSNL Gets DoT’s Approval To Launch 4G Services For Customers

The state owned telecom operator has finally received the approval of the Department of Telecommunication (DoT) to go ahead with its hybrid 4G rollout plan.

BSNL has now recommended splitting the tender into two parts under the hybrid 4G rollout plan that has been proposed. Under the first part, 50,000 sites have been reserved exclusively for the Indian vendors and under the second part, the rest of the 50,000 sites have been set aside for the global vendors such as Ericsson, Nokia, and the rest.

Finally, the DoT has given its approval to this tender plan which is something that the telecom operator has been waiting for. 

Apparently, the proposal by BSNL for 4G services has been approved by the DoT because of the concern of the survival of the state owned BSNL if 4G services were not made available for the customers.

As we are all aware, BSNL was directed to collaborate with Indian vendors by the government for launching its 4G network. However, seeing as none of the Indian vendors had experience about the same, BSNL wasnt provided with any useful technology to launch its 4G services for its customers.

Indian Companies Can Participate In The Sites Reserved For Foreign Vendors

As per reports, Indian companies can also participate in the sites that have been reserved for foreign vendors if the trial of the technology is completed in time and that too, successfully.

We reported to you about BSNL not surviving in the industry beyond two years, as written by the All Unions and Associations of BSNL (AUAB) to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In the letter, they requested the government to not discriminate against BSNL based on the “Make in India” policy.

Out of the upgradable 49,300 BTSs, 13,300 BTSs are supplied by Nokia and 36,000 BTSs are supplied by ZTE and are 4G, 3G, and 2G compatible, as mentioned by BSNL employees. 

They wanted the government to allow BSNL to get its 2G and 3G BTSs upgraded to 4G BTSs to launch 4G services, said AUAB.
