Jio Will Launch 10 Crore Budget Android Smartphones To Challenge Xiaomi, Realme

Jio is now determined the disrupt the budget smartphone segment in India, and give fight to the likes of Xiaomi, Realme, Samsung and other major brands.

As per reports coming in, Jio will launch 10 crore low-cost, budget Android smartphones in India and give a push to their mission of converting 2G users into 3G, 4G users.

The hardware disruption is about to begin.

Jio Will Launch 10 Crore Cheap Android Phones

As per an exclusive by Business Standard, Reliance Jio has placed an outsourcing contract to manufacture 10 crore or 100 million low cost Android smartphones.

These cheap smartphones from Jio will be able to provide the basic web-based servies like using Apps, games, internet via browser and weather information.

It’s not yet clear where this outsourcing contract has been placed, yet.

In July, Reliance had promised to make India 2G-Mukt or 2G-free, and this plan of launching and selling 10 crore Android smartphones seems a part of that grand scheme.

There are still around 40 crore Indians whoare using the basic feature phone, which doesn’t even have an Internet connectivity, and Jio can target these users to convert them into Internet users via their new, budget Android smartphones.

Jio Will Create Own Android Based OS

Infact, Jio has also made a plan to create their own operating system, based on Android, which can run on their new Android phones.

The idea seems similar to the concept of JioPhone, which was launched in 2017, and powered by a KaiOS, which is a Linux based OS developed by a Hong Kong based firm.

Around 10 crore users are already have JioPhone.

However, this time, Jio is planning to disrupt the sub-Rs 7000 smartphone market, which is right now dominated by Xiaomi, Realme and to some extent Samsung.

It seems that this new batch of Jio’s low cost Android phone will be target both 1st time users of smartphones, and users of low-cost budget smartphones who wish to have more, within their budget.

More details are awaited.
