Bad news coming in for PUBG fans in India.
Govt can ban PUBG and 274 other Chinese apps including Ludo World, Aliexpress and others.
This is what Indian Govt is saying on this matter.
PUBG, Ludo World Can Be Banned
Govt has commissioned a list of 275 Chinese apps, which are being monitored for violating user-privacy, and for posing a risk to India’s integrity and security.
As per reports coming in, these apps can be banned in India, anytime now.
The list has been checked by Economic Times, and as per their report, the list of 275 apps include:
- PUBG, the immensely popular gaming app from Tencent, which is China’s most valuable tech company
- Ludo World
- AliExpress by Alibaba
- 10-11 apps by Xiaomi including Zili
- Resso and ULike from Tiktok makers ByteDance
An unnamed person from the Govt has said that some of the apps from this list can be banned, or maybe not.
He said, “The government may ban all, some or none from the list,”
Emails sent by ET to Tencent, Kuaishou, Xiaomi, Bytedance and Alibaba didn’t receive any reply.
What Govt Is Saying Officially On This Matter
Last month, Govt had banned 59 Chinese apps, which included TikTok, which was #1 app in India beating the likes of Whatsapp and Facebook in growth.
Now, it seems that 275 more Chinese apps can be banned soon.
When ET asked Govt officials to comment on this, then some interesting replies came in.
Although the spokesperson from union home ministry didn’t respond to them, an official explained: “Some of these apps have been red-flagged due to security reasons while others have been listed for violation of data sharing and privacy concerns,”
Another senior Govt official said, “A set of rules or defined procedures may take time but is the correct process to go about it in the future,”
Meanwhile an official from ministry of electronics and information technology (MeitY) said, “There is a process involved, there is a committee in place for such ban orders. If there is such an order, then MeitY will act,”
While TikTok had 20 crore users in India, PUBG has 17.5 crore users, and immensely popular among youngsters and gamers.
TikTok had been downloaded whooping 66 crore times in India, and accounted for 30% of their global downloads. PUBG’s 17.5 crore users represent 24% of their global downloads.
