Aadhaar Mandatory For Getting Hair Cut, Visiting Beauty Parlour In This State: Is This Legal?

For the first time in the history of India, you will need to show your Aadhaar card for getting a hair cut and visiting saloon, beauty parlour spas.

But, is this valid, as per the Aadhaar laws?

Show Aadhaar Card To Get Hair Cut In Tamil Nadu

After easing lockdown rules, Tamil Nadu Govt has made it mandatory to show Aadhaar card for getting a hair cut.

Infact, if any customer wants to visit saloon, beauty parlour or a spa, then showing Aadhaar Card is mandatory. The owner is mandated to record the name, address and phone number of their customer, via Aadhaar.

This has been done to trace and track the customer, in case of any contamination and infection reported from that business place.

This order was issued by Commissioner of Revenue Administration J Radhakrishnan in Chennai.

Besides, every employee and every customer in a beauty parlor, saloon and spa should wear hand gloves and mask. Equipments such as hair straightening machine, curling machine, spa stones, face and hair steamers, laser hair removal, dryers should be sanitized atleast 5 times a day, along with the seats, seat cover, tables and dressing tables, mirror.

Any customer or staff having symptoms such as cough, fever, cold should not be present in the business location.

Only 50% capacity is allowed, at any given point of time.

But Showing Aadhaar Is Legal?

Although the  Commissioner of Revenue Administration in Tamil Nadu has issued this order, this violates the Supreme Court’s rules and regulations for Aadhaar usage.

In 2018, the Supreme Court had quashed Section 57 of the Aadhaar Act, which means that no private institution or private entity has the authority to collect and store Aadhaar data of any Indian citizen.

Infact, telecom operators, who were using Aadhaar data for KYC and activating new SIM cards, were ordered to delete all Aadhaar data.

It will be interesting to observe how Tamil Nadu implements this new order to showing Aadhaar card to get a hair cut.

We will keep you updated, as new information comes in.
