Govt Will Launch 20 Lakh ‘Suraksha Stores’ In 45 Days To Sell Essential Goods; Every Store Will Be Free From Virus

In view of the coronavirus pandemic and the restrictions that have been imposed on the transport of goods and persons, the Government of India has a plan to launch a chain of 20 lakh retail shops that will be called “Suraksha Stores” in the whole country. 

Coronavirus outbreak has brought the world to a complete standstill, causing multiple negative effects, a huge decline in the economy, people being fired from their jobs to name a few.

The Suraksha Stores have been launched to make sure people have sufficient access to essential goods and products while managing stringent safety regulations.

20 Lakh Suraksha Stores To Be Launched Across India To Provide Essential Goods 

About 20 lakh retail stores will be opened up across the entire country, called “Suraksha Stores”, and they will provide people with the essential goods while sticking to the advised safety rules and regulations. 

For this, the Suraksha Stores initiative will convert the neighborhood Kirana stores into sanitized retail outlets. These stores will also follow the advised rules regarding safety, such as social distancing and sanitization to control the spread of the novel coronavirus.

The Government will collaborate with private firms to implement this plan, which will see to it that proper protocol is being followed in the entire supply chain starting from manufacturing to the retail outlets in order to fight COVID-19.

FMCGs To Execute Launch Of Retail Stores; Stores Will Have To Follow Safety Rules

A government official confirmed the news, saying, “The government is planning to create Suraksha Store and Suraksha Circle to ensure hygiene and safety norms across the supply chain. More than 50 top FMCG companies have been approached. We are with the government and we have already given our approval to actively participate in this exercise.”

Consumer Affairs Secretary Pawan Kumar Agarwal has already had a minimum of one round of discussion with top FMCG companies to put this plan in place through public private partnership. Every FMCG company will be assigned one or two states where the retail stores will be launched. As per reports, the Suraksha Stores will also be for consumer durables, apparel, and salons.

These stores will have to follow the health and safety rules, such as maintaining a social distancing of 1.5 meters outside the shop and the billing counters. Customers will have to use sanitizer or handwash before entering the shops, providing masks to all the staff and sanitization of high touch areas twice a day.
