Coronavirus: Govt Requests Pvt Firms To Give 100% Salary To Employees, Even If They Can’t Work

In order to keep the economy running, and help the employees of private firms, Govt has India has made a formal request.

This is probably for the first time in India that Govt has made such a request to private firms.

Govt To Private Firms: Don’t Fire Employees, Give Them 100% Salary

In a formal request, Govt has asked all private firms not to fire any employee, as coronavirus has wreaked havoc on the economy.

Govt has told the private firms to give 100% of salary to all employees, even if they can’t come to their work.

This request has been made especially for the contractual workers, and daily wagers.

Union labour and employment ministry joint secretary Kalpana Rajsinghot said, “If any worker takes leave, he should be deemed to be on duty without any consequential deduction in wages for this period.”

As per the request made by Govt, if the private firm’s workplace is closed down, and there is no business, then the workers shouldn’t be fired or asked to leave.

Instead, the workers should be treated as on-duty, and this means that their full salary should be provided.

What Is The Reason Behind This Request?

As per Govt, all workplaces, offices across major Indian cities have been shut down.

Now, in case employers start firing employees, then it will deepen the crisis, and lead to a depression, which is the least thing anyone wants now.

Hence, by giving salaries to the employees, and not firing them, Govt is hoping that employers will be able to keep the economy running.

The letter from Labour Ministry said, “The termination of employees from the job or reduction in wages in this scenario would further deepen the crises and will not only weaken the financial condition of the employee but also hamper their morale to combat their fight with this epidemic,”

In Delhi too, CM Arvind Kejriwal has ordered to all private firms that they should provide 100% salary to all employees, even if they are not able to come to office/factory, and where even work from home is not possible.

Although the employers will be able to bear the cost of giving salary for all employees for this month, what will happen in April?

We will keep you updated, as more details come in.
