As per the reports, the iPhone 11 proved a real hit for Apple as the successor to the iPhone XR is doing even better than its predecessor, dominating sales around the globe.

How Did This Happen?

As per the latest report from Counterpoint Research, the iPhone 11 was the second best selling phone in 2019 with 2.1% share of all global smartphone sales, trailing only the iPhone XR which commanded a 3% share. 

 In Spite of being launched in September, iPhone 11 raced to become the second-best-selling model globally with 2.1 percent share in 2019.

After Apple, Samsung held the second place with three models, all from its A-series, among the top 10.

Further, the Samsung Galaxy A50 rounds out the podium with 1.8% of all global sales. 

While, Apple and Samsung continued their domination throughout the top-10 chart, on the other hand, Oppo and its A5 was the only other company in the global top-10 ranking as per CR.

How Is The 2019 Global Smartphone Top 10 Model Sales Market Share?

Considering on per-region basis, Apple unsurprisingly dominated the North American market where it had the 5 best selling phones, headlined by the iPhone XR. 

While in Europe, Samsung reigned supreme with the A50 followed by Apple with the XR and iPhone 11.

On the other hand, Oppo topped the charts in China with the A5 and A9 models and was also boasted the top-selling phone in the Asia Pacific region with its A5s. 

Also, Samsung dominated the Latin America region with the Galaxy A10 and J2 Core as well as the Middle East and Africa market where it boasted the top-five best-selling smartphones.

To put the numbers into perspective the top-10 best selling phones accounted for 15% of all smartphone sales globally.

How Does It Impact The Market?

In the case of Samsung, the mid-range A-series with features like OLED display, multiple cameras, in-display fingerprint sensor, coupled with the brand power of Samsung created an excellent value proposition for buyers.

The report said, “The revamp of A series has paved the way for a successful mid-tier strategy for Samsung,”.

While in the case of Apple, the first iPhone with multiple cameras was launched at a lower price than its predecessor.

These trends also indicate the impact of the new iPhone series during the all-important holiday season in Q4.

Huawei the second-largest player in the global smartphone sales, although it had no models in the top 10 globally.

The company has concentrated its efforts in China after the trade ban was imposed, had it’s Huawei P30 in the top five models in China.

While Realme entered the top five in the Rest of APAC region for the first time ever with its C2 device.

This was basically driven by strong growth in India and the SEA market. In reality, Realme was the fastest growing brand globally for CY 2019 (426 percent YoY growth).

 the report said “5G still contributed to only 1 percent sales in 2019 hence, there were no 5G models among the top 10. However, this might change in 2020, as the networks roll out, Apple launches its 5G iPhones and 5G devices enter lower price tiers,”.
