Vehicles manufacturers in India are all trying out the electric vehicle niche, now that the Indian Government has started pushing for people to switch to electronically powered vehicles. The demand for electric vehicles is also on the rise, with Tata Tigor taking up the largest chunk of the sales in the last year.

Tata Tigor EV Becomes The Most Sold Car In India With 669 Units Sold

As per reports, there were about 1554 electric cars that were sold in the first 9 months of the last fiscal year, i.e., April – December 2019. Tata Motors, which is one of India’s leading automobile manufacturers, has managed to make its car the winner. Tata Motors’ Tata Tigor EV has recorded the highest number of cars sold in 2019. Tata Tigor sold about 669 units of the car.

Tata Tigor EV was launched only for the Government fleet initially but later it was launched for personal use as well. The extended range version of the electric sedan came with a range of 213 km as certified by ARAI. there were three versions launched for both fleet and personal segment customers of the car, XE+, XM+ and XT+. 

The electric version of the Tata Tigor is available for a starting price of Rs. 9.44 lakhs for fleet and Rs. 12.59 lakhs, and it classifies for a FAME II incentive for eligible commercial customers. 

It has a 21.5 kWh battery pack which will charge up to 80% in about 90 minutes with a DC 15kW fast charger. If charged with a standard AC wall socket, the car can be charged up to 80% in 6 hours. About the safety features, the car comes with dual airbags,  (XE+ variant with Driver Airbag only) and an anti-lock braking system. 

Tata Nano Least Sold Car In India; Only One Unit Sold

The least sold electric vehicle in India was the Tata Nano, which sold only one unit in February, and did not get around to produce even one unit. However, the company hasn’t phased out the car as of yet. 

After Tata Tigor EV, comes the Mahindra e-Verito, which clocked 563 units, Hyundai sold 292 units of the Kona Electric, whereas Mahindra sold only 30 units of the e2o.
