US Increasing Green Card Allocation

President Trump led US Govt. is all set to pass a bill, which will increase Green Card allocation by a massive 45% – a move which will immensely benefit over 5 lakh Indian techies who are right now working in the US under H-1B visa.

This encouraging development comes days after Trump administration decided to scrap their earlier decision to stop granting H-1B visa extension to those, whose Green Card application has been accepted.

Besides, this news comes as a welcome relief after a series of anti-immigration and anti H1-B visa were proposed by the Trump Administration.

Proposal To Increase Green Cards by 45%

Right now 1,20,000 Green Card applications are processed per year by the US Govt.

A new bill, whose name is, ironically, ‘Securing America’s Future Act’ has been proposed which, if passed, will increase the number of Green Cards to 1,75,000 per year.

This is a massive increase of 45%, something which has not been done in a long long time.

This bill has been proposed by House Homeland Security Committee Border and Maritime Security Subcommittee Chairwoman Martha McSally, House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Michael McCaul, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte and House Judiciary Committee Immigration and Border Security Subcommittee Chairman Raul Labrador.

These officials are known to be backed by President Trump, and chances are high that this will be passed at the House Of Representatives soon.

McCaul said,

“This bill offers common-sense solutions that will finally secure our borders, better support our frontline defenders, strengthen interior enforcement, and get tough on those who break our immigration laws. With this the president at the helm, we have the opportunity to provide the security and rule of law our founding fathers intended,”

The US Wants To Secure Their Future Via This Bill?

So, how can a nation secure its future?

Among other ways, the best way is to strengthen their workforce and filter out the unnecessary elements.

The current bill, which is named ‘Securing America’s Future Act’ will do exactly that.

On one hand, it will eliminate illegal immigrants, and bring them down from 1.05 million to just 2,60,000 per year; on the other hand, it will encourage merit-based permanent residentship in the form of Green Card, and work visas, and attract the cream of talent from every country to work in the US.

This new bill also proposes to issue a renewable temporary visa for those who are working under H1-B visa, so that they can reunite with their families. However, there is one condition attached: Other than parents and spouses, the new bill will restrict sponsorship of the persons’ other relatives under any form of temporary visa.

White House, in a statement, said that this new bill “would accomplish the President’s core priorities for the American people”.
